Well whaddya know.....Diane Feinstein with McCain are out publicly challenging BO and his mental issues of his ideology. This is indeed a good day to Start a Monday. Another Democrat telling BO how he has got it wrong. What say ye?

Two influential senators are calling on President Barack Obama to send more U.S. ground troops to hotspots around the Middle East.

The suggestion by Republican John McCain and Democrat Dianne Feinstein is a direct challenge to the president, who has said he doesn’t want to increase the U.S. military presence in Yemen despite the deteriorating security condition in that country.

Feinstein, the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, says the U.S. needs more human intelligence in the region and to not rely so heavily on intelligence gathered by technical means.....snip~

Re: On ‘Face the Nation,’ Senators Feinstein, McCain Call For More U.S. Troops In M.E

I think there are only two rational approaches. Either we should have no troops in the middle east at all or we should have enough with a mission to destroy ISIS within a few months. To me anything else, including what we are doing and throwing more troops at the problem without the will to destroy ISIS, is political and irrational.

I agree. No troops in the Middle East. Tell them to pack their bags--they're goin' home.

So how does that get rid of the problem of AQ and ISIS? As it clear those in the M.E are not competent enough to resolve the problem on their own. Not counting Israel that is.

Heya FMW. :2wave: I think you are Right. Time to treat the problem with seriousness.

Re: On ‘Face the Nation,’ Senators Feinstein, McCain Call For More U.S. Troops In M.E

I think when the enemy is goading you into direct combat... you need to re-think whether it's worth it.

ISIS wants a ground war with Americans.

Don't give it to them if you can help it.

Or leave the problem to someone else. Our current approach just angers me (and ISIS.)

Do they? Why would anyone want that?

It is clear they have no intention of trying as long as they can rely like clockwork on sucking our troops in to die in their stead. ISIS is not a US problem--we just make it one by being a buttinski

That's an interesting statement. How is it clear that (for example) Jordan and Saudi Arabia do not intend to try to defeat ISIL?

ISIS is not a US problem--we just make it one by being a buttinski

 yeah. Because it's not like they would ever seek to launch attacks in the west, or expand to take over a global key vulnerability.

ISIL is absolutely a problem for the US. We like our nice, happy, first-world lifestyle and the global system of trade upon which it depends.

Who else can take care of the problem? The Europeans don't have the heart nor the will. The Aussies can't do it alone with those in the ME.

BBC News - Islamic State message shows desire for US boots on the ground

The chief spokesman for the self-named "Islamic State" (IS), also known as Isis, has given the clearest indication yet that his fighters would actually welcome a ground war in Iraq and Syria against US troops.

In a 42-minute audio message uploaded to the internet the group's Syrian-born spokesman, who has taken the adopted name of Shaykh Abu Muhammad al-Adnani, mocks recent US air strikes and the moves to build an international coalition against Islamic State.

Addressing President Obama, the spokesman says: "Is this all you are capable of doing in this campaign of yours? Are America and all its allies... unable to come down to the ground?"

ISIS wants to draw you into a Ground War.

When an enemy so brazenly wants you to engage him, and goads you in this manner, tactically you have to assess whether that's a wise choice.

Re: On ‘Face the Nation,’ Senators Feinstein, McCain Call For More U.S. Troops In M.E

Great, now we get bipartisan agreement on sending yet more troops back to the region. We really are never going to learn are we?

Well, I know you heard BO try and tell all how AQ is a former Shadow of themselves. But despite what you heard. The fact is. AQ has grown and in strength. Both ISIS and AQ have declared War on us. So our people our assets its all open game to them.

Now while true.....they are not just our problem. They are a problem that exists and that problem has to come with an ending.

What does need to be made clear and some are getting the message now. They are problem that has become everyones problem. So now everyone has to play their part.

The King of Jordan talks a good game but always give themselves an out along the lines of "Extremism is a Muslim problem to combat....but right now we are flooded with refugees who are consuming all of our budgets and most focus on helping those people first."

 yeah. Because it's not like they would ever seek to launch attacks in the west, or expand to take over a global key vulnerability.

There is no indication of that so far from ISIL. I assume "global key vulnerability" is a fancy way of saying "Israel and Palestine".

ISIL is absolutely a problem for the US.

It is a problem for US oil companies. Others not so much

That sounds like bravado on their part. They would lose a ground war to the US. They would lose badly and quickly. ISIS is a band of brutal thugs, not a military fighting force.

Who's gonna clear them out of Mosul for example?

You?

You're gonna go door to door in Mosul and clear them out?

How many troops is that going to take?

How many are you willing to lose?

How many is too many to the American public after over a decade of war and nothing to show for it?

How do you know what I heard? I don't watch Obama speeches for more than 30 seconds. I find him rather a dull boy.

All problems will come to an end when Jesus comes home to clean house.

Everyone playing their part is what they want you to feel.

Isn't it amazing how the same group of people can keep making the same dangerous mistake over and over again?

Isn't it amazing how on most days Republicans and Democrats can't even agree the sky is blue.

But with hardly any debate whatsoever renewed the patriot act and Obama quickly signed it without any additional safeguards for civil liberties just as an example of the utter nonsense this two party system is.

No. They are just a bunch of crazy weaklings that go around making threats that they can't possibly carry out. They are the punk gangster that thinks he's a bad ass for no good reason.

Well, they agree on this because it's good for their portfolios and campaign contributions.

Well I figured you would hear something about it.....which would be the most commonly known information that was being discussed. What the MS Media and most people would be talking about with the matter. A given at the very least.

Okay.....or until we destroy ourselves.

No, everyone playing their part.....is what stops both from spreading and becoming more of a problem than what they are now.

Re: On ‘Face the Nation,’ Senators Feinstein, McCain Call For More U.S. Troops In M.E

The King of Jordan talks a good game but always give themselves an out along the lines of "Extremism is a Muslim problem to combat....but right now we are flooded with refugees who are consuming all of our budgets and most focus on helping those people first."

He is correct that Jordan (and Lebanon) are inundated with the largest number of refugees to exist since WWII, and that's a massive problem for them - roughly 10% of their populace is a refugee. Take an additional 10% of the American populace and throw them onto government dependency, and we'd have problems as well.

However, Jordan is actively involved in the counter-ISIL fight, and (correctly) see's ISIL as a potential existential threat. KSA as well. Egypt is doing good work in the Sinai.

There is no indication of that so far from ISIL. I assume "global key vulnerability" is a fancy way of saying "Israel and Palestine".

No. It's a way of saying "Saudi Arabia, with the additional ability to project force into global arterial choke points such as the straits of Aden and Hormuz".

It is a problem for US oil companies. Others not so much

Sure. Just as Al-Qaida isn't a problem for us. It's not like they would ever attack us here, eh?

We have red-blooded, flag-waving, pick-up driving frackers to take care of business.

Sure. And Oil isn't fungible at all.

Isolationism is a nice dream, but a pipe dream. Unfortunately, so long as we are economically dependent upon the rest of the world in order to maintain our standard of living, we have to actually care what goes on there.

Re: On ‘Face the Nation,’ Senators Feinstein, McCain Call For More U.S. Troops In M.E

No. They are just a bunch of crazy weaklings that go around making threats that they can't possibly carry out. They are the punk gangster that thinks he's a bad ass for no good reason.

So to be clear. It is your claim that ISIL could not, for example, triple the territory they control AFTER we started bombing them? That they could not utilize their foreign fighter populace to enable external operations in Europe and the U.S.? That they are unlikely to be able to do things like defeat large echelons of nation-state militaries?

Because they are a bunch of crazy weaklings who think they are badass for no good reason?

Calling them "Jayvee" doesn't actually mean that they will then be unable to achieve strategic effects.
