U.S. Not Expected to Fault Officer in Ferguson Case

By MATT APUZZO and MICHAEL S. SCHMIDTJAN. 21, 2015

WASHINGTON — Justice Department lawyers will recommend that no civil rights charges be brought against the police officer who fatally shot an unarmed teenager in Ferguson, Mo., after an F.B.I. investigation found no evidence to support charges, law enforcement officials said Wednesday.

Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. and his civil rights chief, Vanita Gupta, will have the final say on whether the Justice Department will close the case against the officer, Darren Wilson. But it would be unusual for them to overrule the prosecutors on the case, who are still working on a legal memo explaining their recommendation.

A decision by the Justice Department would bring an end to the politically charged investigation of Mr. Wilson in the death of 18-year-old Michael Brown. The Missouri authorities concluded their investigation into Mr. Brown’s death in November and also recommended against charges

Did anybody actually think there was a civil "rights" violation?

Prepare for more racial unrest, protests that turn ugly, and perhaps even more violence.

Legally, this case was going to be more difficult to prove vs. the original charges Wilson was facing. With a civil rights violation you have to prove intent, that Wilson intended to violate Brown's civil rights.

I never did think a Federal level charges were going to work in this case given that legal bar. But saying all that, whatever buisnesses are left in Furgeson should prepare anyway.

Looks like some people will now be mad at Holder, huh? Should the officer turn around and sue for false accusations being made against him?

I think that would make matters much worse.

What about a Suit against Holder and Sharptones.

Would be entertaining, but again would just result in disaster. A suit against Holder would have no merit. Against Sharpton it might, but there would still be obstacles including all those that support Sharpton being able to call anyone a racist without any proof.

He could live anywhere and still sue Browns Parents and those that brought the case. They tried to destroy his life......definitely changed it. Why should he show any mercy in return?

After the grand jury results earlier, it seemed unlikely that the federal investigation would turn up anything extra. After all they had the same information to work from.

I am glad to see another knows that.

I understand what you were saying, but lets be more accurate, he was not facing any charges. The GJ was there to decide if enough evidence (in this case, the totality of) existed to charge him with a crime.

I hope it doesn't come to that.

The good news is that they are looking to arrest at least some of the looters.

You cant find evidence if it doesn't exist.

Perhaps they should sue Sharpton. But then he probably would not pay. If I am not mistaken that is what happened after the Brawley B.S.
