What the soldiers discovered when they entered the range made them angry: mug shots of African American men apparently used as targets by North Miami Beach Police snipers, who had used the range before the guardsmen.

Even more startling for Deant, one of the images was her brother. It was Woody Deant’s mug shot that taken 15 years ago, after he was arrested in connection to a drag race in 2000 that left two people dead. His mug shot was among the pictures of five minorities used as targets by North Miami Beach police, all of them riddled by bullets.

He served 4 years behind bars in connection to illegal drag racing 10 years ago. Would you express public shame over your mere relation to a sibling with that rap sheet? If so, you've got serious and medication-worthy issues.

Optically, this is a bad story for the police made only worse with this part:

The North Miami Beach police chief denies that there was a racial element to the selection of the mug shots and says that his department commonly uses pictures of real people for target practice

Oh that's just so much better! Prooooobably not the best statement to make. This guy has zero political savvy. :roll: Given the current climate I can see this being the last term for this police chief.

To me this just seems to be another instance where people make a big fuss over something that in reality affects no one or at least shouldn't. I'll volunteer my picture for them to use. Its no skin off my back.

I agree, but why would a sensible person or police force do this given the racial tensions? It's irresponsible like throwing a can of gas on a house fire that others are trying to put out.

I think it's absurd they're using real images of ANYONE.

Jesus - I don't care if they are criminals. It's grotesque - and highly unethical at the least.

No excuses - let's not stoop that low and plead for sensible gun rights on one hand but defend buffoonery on the other, mmk?

Do you mean to seriously suggest that it is not shameful to have a sibling who was convicted in connection with a serious crime which resulted in the loss of human lives?

I would be deeply ashamed of either of my siblings if they were willingly involved in such crimes. Would you really not?

Only to an extreme, sociopathic wrong winger does concern for the most basic of ethics and decency become “…serious and medication-worthy issues.”
