Holder limits seized-asset sharing process that split billions with local, state poli

Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. on Friday barred local and state police from using federal law to seize cash, cars and other property without evidence that a crime occurred.Holder’s action represents the most sweeping check on police power to confiscate personal property since the seizures began three decades ago as part of the war on drugs.

Asset forfeiture without establishing guilt first should have never been allowed in the first place. It is about time that one of the most egregious violations of the concept of "innocent until proven guilty" has been at least partially reigned in.

If I'm reading this correctly then all that's stopped is the "equitable sharing". I don't see where he stopped state and local asset forfeiture programs at all.

You are reading it correctly. Which is why I used the phrase "has been at least partially reigned in"

Its a start.I guess even a broken clock is right twice a day.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"
