As President Barack Obama addressed the nation regarding national cyber security efforts, hackers claiming to represent the Islamic State (IS) took over the Twitter account of the Pentagon division in charge of the Middle East.
Hackers with the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL, posted links on U.S. Central Command’s official Twitter page to what it claimed was “confidential data from your mobile devices.”
“ISIS is already here, we are in your PCs, in each military base. With Allah’s permission we are in CENTCOM now,” said one tweet sent from CENTCOM’s account.
The apparent hack came as President Obama addressed the nation regarding cyber security. He is expected to propose two pieces of cyber security legislation and to address the effort in his upcoming State of the Union address.

The hackers subsequently tweeted images of spreadsheets containing the home addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses of dozens of current and former senior U.S. military officers.
“AMERICAN SOLDIERS, WE ARE COMING WATCH YOUR BACK,” one tweet stated.

Should American Generals have twitter feeds and public mobile devices which could compromise military information? According to Reuters the General's home addresses were published as well. Are we as a country not taking this seriously enough or is this much ado about nothing?

The NSA doesnt exist to secure our networks but rather to spy on us.

They also got in to CENTCOM'S U Tube Account.

Did they "hack" the accounts or did they guess some dumb**** password for some social media PR nonsense?

I'd like for everyone to take note that these aren't actually currently serving US generals, but a retired officers roster. The difference is minimal, but it could be a clue as to who is behind this. Would the information of a retired officer be compiled anywhere?

They guessed passwords, if it was an actual "hack" twitter, youtube would have some splainin to do.

UPDATE: The information that was posted on the account has been verified by intelligence sources as real information hacked directly from CENTCOMM, meaning this wasn't simply a hack of a Twitter account, but against CENTCOMM itself.

Since the breach, Twitter has suspended the CENTCOMM account.....snip~

I think it's time for the DoD, CENTCOMM and other military to remove the public doorways. Public media apps make it way to easy to create new paths to doors that should not be opened in networks and databases. Yank it! Start treating this as a serious issue instead of an inconvenient one.

Strange that the only thing breached is a retired officer roster and a few twitter accounts. have you heard more?

The Terrorists getting home addresses and phone numbers is my concern. They already called on lone wolves to go after our Troops families and to kill them in their homes.

They did this with perfect timing.....they knew when BO was going to give his speech.

BO should could consider a direct affront.....Imo!

Oh gawd it's the muzlums!! EVERYBODY PANIC WE'RE GONNA DIE!!!11!!!1!!

oh wait, they show our attack plans scenario for north korea....

how convenient.

I'm not a conspiracy kind of guy, but I smell a little bull**** here or a honey pot.

in fact this reeks of a honey pot.

I don't know about the addresses but they do confirm the compromise. What do you think that says? Would Reuters work as a source?

U.S. military Twitter feed hacked, apparently by IS sympathizers.....

r

The Twitter feed for the U.S. military command that oversees operations in the Middle East was hacked on Monday by people claiming sympathy to the Islamic State militant group being targeted in American bombing raids.

U.S. officials said that the U.S. Central Command Twitter account and its YouTube account were suspended after being compromised. Two U.S. defense officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the hacking was an embarrassment but did not appear to be a security threat.

The White House said it was monitoring the extent of the hacking .....snip~

They hacked centcom, and this is the best they got?

I'm not impressed.

It was a honey pot.

What I find far more interesting is that they've then go to centcom and post it. Why not use their own accounts to post it? It's not as if centcom would have had that many twitter followings anyways. Why post it on an account with such few followers? Why not go after the accounts of people with tens of millions of followers? Seems like they shot their load and their best shot was a bunch of information that a script kiddy could access..

There is alot of this that doesn't make much sense.

Yep, that's their Best and the military scenarios are not real. Also they are saying ISIS sympathizers not the real terrorists themselves. Like I said.....the concern would be the addresses an phone numbers they got.

Slides posted by the unknown hackers that purported to show plans involving China and North Korea are not military and some of them were produced by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the officials said. "This is clearly embarrassing, but not a security threat,".....snip~
