the regime controls 100% of their media, and routinely oppresses and punishes dissenters, including dissenting journalists.

so yeah, we'll see I guess.
It's a lot harder to control the media when there is trade and visits taking place.

There's a reason North Korea has opted to completely shut their borders. Authoritarians love isolation.

Hahahah, all of Cuba had a special period in the 90s. There's nothing else to be on when chicken and fish start to disappear.

Yeah I know, that was at a place in Tampa where they claimed to make the largest Cuban sandwich.

Oh I hear ya, there are a lot of "Cuban sandwiches" around the world though. When I was in Mexico, they had a Cuban sandwich that had sirloin in it. When I went to Cuba and told some of my in-laws about it, they wanted to know just what the hell "sirloin" was. I then realized I'd never even learned the word in Spanish because Cubans (who I actually learned Spanish from) had never taught me much about food. Cuban food is funny that way, when you go there, the average Cuban has never even heard the term "kosher".

Irrelevant because even "sources" within the administration won't go on record unless it is anonymous...Why is that do you think? Who are the 53? All we are told is that "well, that's it, they complied" I don't know that? And who is to say that once these relations are developed again that they just don't go out and pick them up again under some pretense?

And while they also rant on about certain human rights abuses, the US trades openly with South Korea and has said nothing about the salt mines in the south islands where the blind and diabled are used as slave labour.
Says who? I see you making the claim, I don't see anything backing up your claim here.....

The US also has cozy relations with Saudi Arabia who annually behead more people than ISIS.
Oh, and you think that American's wouldn't love to see SA give up that kind of crap? And what would you suppose would replace the ties we have to them at this point in the ME? What has Obama done to live up to this rhetoric in order to earn a free pass from you on this?

So why pick on little Cuba when on that very island the US has a military base the UN says is illegal and tortures people who have been denied due process through a Dick Cheney invented technicality. A trick Obama has continued despite promises to close Gitmo altogether.
So, you think that the US should be governed by the UN?

It's time to look in the mirror instead of preaching to a people the US has been actively trying to destroy for 45 years.
Sorry, I am not on the 'blame America first' train....Have fun with that...It must be a blast, what with all of the "man this place sucks" crowd....
Americans are so enamored of equality that they would rather be equal in slavery than unequal in freedom.

Perhaps Cuba has, but Russia is still violating the Geneva Conventions on Prisoners Of War and the Minsk Agreement...
