Most of America’s rich think the poor have it easy

In fact it did work out well for them. They got land, 50 acres minimum, and opportunities, that would have not been available to them in Britain.

Only a fellow at the Hoover Institute would think such a thing. The rest of us would rather be free than indentured servants.

Everyone, to a degree. "Ownership" is an incredibly subjective issue.

Nope...Wrong again...When "everyone" pays my bills, then you can say they have ownership...But your 99% crap doesn't fly here....

Living IN England with no chance of improving your lot?

They do pay your bills, in fact, they're nice enough to not even send you an invoice for most of them.

Most of America’s rich think the poor have it easy - The Washington Post
Most of America's richest think poor people have it easy in this country, according to a new report released by the Pew Research Center. The center surveyed a nationally representative group of people this past fall, and found that the majority of the country's most financially secure citizens (54 percent at the very top, and 57 percent just below) believe the "poor have it easy because they can get government benefits without doing anything in return." America's least financially secure, meanwhile, vehemently disagree — nearly 70 percent say the poor have hard lives because the benefits "don't go far enough." Nationally, the population is almost evenly split.

Seems to me some would like nothing more than to bring indentured servitude back in vogue.

Aw, bull ****...You haven't a clue.
Have you been sent itemized bills for the streets you've driven on? The safe food you've eaten? The internet that was developed? The stable commerce you've engaged in? Etc?

You don't think that some of the poor are because of their own choosing. You don't think that some poor are living off the tax payer and loving it. Have you ever thought that some will not work no matter what. Did you ever think that some would rather steel than work? Yes living on the tax payer for some is living the dream.

Who in their right mind would choose to live a subsistence lifestyle????

You're clearly not familiar with the history.
I'm familiar with the parts of our history where people were exploited. Also I'm familiar with how landowners exploited parts of a Latin and Central America as a part of the banana wars. I don't glorify it though.

I can only say, as politely as possible, that you know nothing about this aspect of history and, apparently, Latin America as well. Worse is that you don't even familiarize yourself with the subject before commenting.

Yep, they're called taxes.

Then please explain where I'm wrong. You present something that basically glorifies cheap labor.

Jailed for $280: The return of debtors' prisons - CBS News
(MoneyWatch) How did breast cancer survivor Lisa Lindsay end up behind bars? She didn't pay a medical bill -- one the Herrin, Ill., teaching assistant was told she didn't owe. "She got a $280 medical bill in error and was told she didn't have to pay it," The Associated Press reports. "But the bill was turned over to a collection agency, and eventually state troopers showed up at her home and took her to jail in handcuffs."

Although the U.S. abolished debtors' prisons in the 1830s, more than a third of U.S. states allow the police to haul people in who don't pay all manner of debts, from bills for health care services to credit card and auto loans. In parts of Illinois, debt collectors commonly use publicly funded courts, sheriff's deputies, and country jails to pressure people who owe even small amounts to pay up, according to the AP.

Sad. Here is another good piece on the topic of debtor prisons: The Rise of “Debtors’ Prisons” in the US | JONATHAN TURLEY

Disgusting to be honest, how this came to be is quite telling as to who is listened to in State Legislators.
And now the Republicans with some Democrats have been slipping in amendments to the Dodd - Frank act under major legislation. Slowly chipping away at holding financial institutions responsible after the last mess they made that affected every country.

If you borrow money and refuse to pay it back, you are a thief. Period.

You should be familiar with the subject and the history, both in Britain and the US, before you begin debate. I'm not here to school you.

What? I'm not asking you to school me. I'm asking you where you disagree with my points.

You claimed I was 'glorifying cheap labor'. How stupid is that? Again, learn something about the subject and then contribute. See you in a week or so.

I didn't say 'you'. I was talking about the people over at the Hoover Institute. The mindset that cheap labor made us strong.

Those aren't itemized by your use of them, or your indirect use of them.
Oh, but there is where you're dead wrong. As a citizen I pay taxes for roads, schools, and infrastructure. As a trucker I pay through the nose for roads, and infrastructure. Tell me I don't and I'll send the bills to you and you can pay them.
