Steal, one reason I like a progressive tax system. Even here we have massive issues with poverty, but the rates are drooping.
Have you considered the social, health costs of poverty?
Homelessness, costs more than the solutions. Yes I know some will always be shoeless, as well as some will always be poor.
The tax system favors those with money.
Look at how a corp can stash profits overseas and wait to bring it back to the US for taxation.
They can wait years from what I understand.
Many are waiting for a tax reduction, temporary as the last one was to repatriate profits, at a lower tax rate.

Anyway like you, I give more than the avereage median income to charity, however I have found that to be empty in gesture, I found it's more rewarding to get on the board of a charity, or to volunteer my time. whether it's with city harvest, or the inner city youth club I am on the board of.

I can contribute something far more valuable than money.

    i have 3 pet projects

one is unicef (been a contributor for decades)

another is the lymphoma society (both parent died of cancer)

last is a shelter in dc (where we also volunteer)

the shelter is also where i feel what i give does the most good.....

i have been blessed in last number of years....now i try to give a bit back

as a corporate controller, i would advise an owner or a board to do the exact same thing

question....do you pay more than you legally have to in taxes every year? why not?

companies are doing the EXACT same thing.....if you dont like it, vote the people out who voted for those rules.....better be careful though....it might not be who you think it is.....

i do most of my own tax prep....i am an accountant...and have a cpa make sure i didnt miss anything or screw something up

i dont want to pay anything more than i have to.....uncle sammie gets more than enough imo

stop blaming the companies....start blaming the politicians who write and pass the laws

Did I blame to companies- Nope-
Would I do the same- Yep
The companies are to make money- Right.
    Duty to their stockholders.

Now do you wish to address the other points I made?

Have you considered the social, health costs of poverty? yes....i volunteer at a shelter and see poverty on a weekly basis.....but there is no social utopia......life isnt fair.....and never will be exactly fair

I noted my shoeless comment- should have been homelessness.
So do nothing is the answer?

you approve of theft. At least you are honest.
Climate, changes. It takes a particularly uneducated population to buy into the idea that it's their fault climate is changing and further political solutions can fix it.

No....we provide a chance at education which is the ONLY path out of poverty

We go back to training kids for trades, plumbing, electrical, welding, mechanical....especially those who don't appear to have the ability to finish college

We train, and we educate....the rest is up to the individual.....

I wonder how many of them have ever lived under conditions where a single missed paycheck can spell disaster, or where SNAP or other programs can make the difference between whether your children go hungry or not.
How many know that those conditions exist because of the choices those individuals made. Like the choice to have children they couldn't afford.

Are they employed? Yes. Do they actually work hard? Not in a lot of cases. They have opportunities but don't take them. Do they seek to better themselves when they can? Does their attitudes and job performance justify their employer laying out more money for them?

In every single case of a non-disabled/mentally handicapped adult living in so called poverty in the US, there are individual choices made by those individuals which led to that condition and keeps them in that condition. In many of the cases there was "poor" parents who did a piss poor job of raising their children which led continuing poverty.

Want to save those kids, stop them going hungry and give them a decent chance at a future, take them away from those underachieving, entitlement dependent, lazy and stupid parents, then place them in a group home or another environment which gives them discipline and the nurturing they need.
