2,000 feared killed in 'deadliest' Boko Haram attack in Nigeria

2,000 feared killed in 'deadliest' Boko Haram attack in Nigeria - CNN.com

Kano, Nigeria (CNN)Boko Haram militants opened fire on northern Nigerian villages, leaving bodies scattered everywhere and as many as 2,000 people feared dead, officials said.

"The attack on Baga and surrounding towns looks as if it could be Boko Haram's deadliest act," Amnesty International said in a statement.

Islamist militants sprayed bullets as they stormed in last weekend in trucks and armored vehicles, local authorities said Friday.

When they arrived, they unloaded motorcycles and pursued residents who fled into the bush, firing indiscriminately, said Baba Abba Hassan, a local district head.

Local officials reported death tolls ranging from hundreds to as many as 2,000 people.

    Hello,

Your point is certainly valid. The peoples of much of Africa live under constant threat of Muslim attack and their lives are also important. However, we should not pay less attention to Paris but more attention to the unrelenting international phenomenon which threatens us.

Geez, Western prejudice and hypocrisy on display again.

2000 African people killed and the western media barely notices.

But kill 12 people in Paris and everyone freaks out.

    Pathetic.

Heya DA Well, they did miss the Egyptian President's remarkable speech on Islam and all Muslims to, then showing up and Meeting the Coptic Christians Pope at their Mass.

Still it isn't just killing people in Paris. It was a coordinated attack and AQAP is taking the credit.

Gun trafficking certainly threatens all of us. Islam does not.

    Heya MMC

I realize that. But they were both mass murders and I personally think that murdering hundreds of innocent humans in Africa is more newsworthy then murdering a dozen innocent humans in Paris.

They were both terrible incidents. But the one with the far higher death toll is the far worse one imo.

They don't really have anyone going after Boko Haram either.....but you are Right. They did massacre 2000 people. Nigeria isn't capable of stopping them and I don't see any other around them that can.

    Agreed.

I think Boko Haram are easily the most dangerous terrorist group on the planet right now...mostly because no one locally can stop them.

Re: 2,000 feared killed in 'deadliest' Boko Haram attack in Nigeria

Nigeria is fairly developed for an African nation, but it is a far more backward place than France. When savagery takes place in wild places like rural Nigeria, it should not be any great surprise. When it takes place in the middle of one of the world's great cities, it is shocking. I'm sure it is also hard to get accurate reports from rural Nigeria--I doubt there were cameras filming these murders, or worldwide news outlets right there to spread news of them to the world.

So there is no need to invoke racial bias to explain the difference in coverage. But this difference presents sullen people who resent Western civilization with a golden chance to reveal their own prejudices. I'm just waiting for one of them to tell us we don't know for sure Boko Haram was involved, that it's unfair to blame Muslim jihadists for these murders, etc.
