Nadia Savchenko: The most controversial prisoner of the war in Ukraine
She was captured on the battlefield in eastern Ukraine in uniform and armed. She was interrogated on video by rebels as a POW (picture above) i.e. name, rank, unit, unit location, unit strength etc. Three weeks later she was illegally transferred to Russia and charged with the battlefield deaths of two Russian journalists. Her Moscow lawyer says mobile phone records prove she was not in the area when the journalists perished from a mortar round. Russia denies she is legally a Prisoner of War, yet the Geneva Conventions are quite clear...
If Russia believes POW Lieutenant Savchenko committed a war crime, she should be transferred to the International War Crimes Tribunal in the Hague along with all prosecution documentation and evidence.
Not tried as a civilian in a Putin kangaroo court in Moscow.

Somewhere behind the walls of Moscow’s pre-trial detention centre No 6, the Ukrainian MP and helicopter pilot, is slowly starving after 30 days of living on just water and tea. Sunday marks the 30th day of living on just water and tea for Nadia Savchenko, a helicopter pilot who fought in the Iraq war and newly minted Ukrainian MP. She is on hunger strike in protest at what she says are fabricated charges of war crimes brought against her by Russian investigators. She has become the most controversial prisoner of the war in Ukraine, with Vladimir Putin clashing with Barack Obama and Angela Merkel over her fate.
