Nigeria's militant Islamists have carried out a second attack on the key north-eastern town of Baga, an official has told the BBC.Boko Haram fighters burnt down almost the entire town on Wednesday, after over-running a military base on Saturday, Musa Alhaji Bukar said.Bodies lay strewn on Baga's streets, amid fears that some 2,000 people had been killed in the raids, he added.

Boko Haram launched a military campaign in 2009 to create an Islamic state.It has taken control of many towns and villages in north-eastern Nigeria in the last year.The conflict has displaced at least 1.5 million people, while more than 2,000 were killed last year.

The Nigerian military is not terribly powerful.
 
Meanwhile, the biggest response Obama sees to counter Boko Haram is a useless Twitter campaign.
 
I don't know what to do, but I sure wish someone would do something to stop those monsters.

There are really only 3 options that we have.

-Do nothing

-Provide the Nigerian Government military assistance(e.i. WEAPONS)

-take them out ourselves

Believe it or not, the best option for us is to do nothing. If the Nigerians don't handle this themselves, the "problem" will simply evaporate for a short time only to reappear once we pull back both wiser and more emboldened from the experience.

A popular talking point has always been "we must learn from the past". Well, it seems the only people who can't seem to learn from the past is us. The world that these people live in seems to have learned all too well that they can't defeat us in war but they really don't have to. They simply take off their uniforms and quit shooting for a while knowing that it is just matter of time before the political winds shift in our country and we loose our will to actually finish what we started. It takes much more than a few bombing runs and some drone strikes. To really accomplish getting rid of these assholes for good means taking over, locking the place down, and occupying it for a generation or two... or three. Kind of like what we did with Germany and Japan after WWII.

"Going all the way" is tough sledding. It means death on a massive scale and none of this "hearts and minds" bull****. Unless we're willing to commit to the full ride, and let's face it, we're not, best to leave the horse in the barn.
 
Well, technically speaking, one way of achieving peace is to kill everyone else so I guess someone wouldn't necessarily be incorrect to say that militant, head chopping, baby burning salafists aren't acting in the interests of world peace.

It is difficult to watch, but short of becoming the worlds police force, I don't know what else can be done.

Gas prices have plummeted despite Obama. He opposed drilling and claimed we "cant drill our way out of this problem".

So while prices have fallen, its pretty amusing to see you try to claim its because of Obama.

That said-lets focus on terror in this thread.

What alternative do we have? Ignore the problem in the hope that it goes away?
We tried something close to that with Al-Queda in the 90s. Look what happened as a result.
