And what do Iraq and Afghanistan have in common?
They were invaded during the "Never ending war on terror"?
And what do Iraq and Afghanistan have in common?
The Arab Spring belongs to the arab people.Μολὼν λαβέ;1064137362 said:Obama's Arab Spring
And also Bush 1, Bush 2, Clinton, Obama, Saddam, ISIS, Baathist, Kurds, and the Iraqis people.and Obama's Iraq.
I agree. He didnt deserve the nobel peace prize. What a great idea from the Nobel Peace Prize recipient, seedlings of terrorism around the globe.
Morning MMCIt's not? A Work in Progress to what? He told the Troops from Hawaii that the World is safer, and that's going into 2015. Even Bob Woodward is back out slamming BO over that statement. Saying how is that when BO has declared War on ISIS.....and for still thinking the War on Terror is over with.
Morning MMC
I'm hoping Obama has the good sense to not use 2015 as a hard date for complete exit. I'm hoping the ANSF continues to fight and we continue tohelp as long as they do.
The war is vastly unpopular ( hell -I hate it too), but the region has to be pacified, now that the Taliban are not just local but international presence.
So what ever Obama says now for politics/domestic consumption we have to hope his JCS/advisors can talk some sense into him like they did on the continued air support they did for this phase
last I read was the US's BSA finally signed, and I guess the NATO SOFA also. But since Karzai is out and Ghani a much more reasonable player..there could be some room there if things don't just deteriorate.Mornin' AT. :2wave: I thought he has his SOFA in place? With who he is releasing from the Taliban. I don't think things will be improving any.

they can't afford to pay police ( 3000 police alone killed this year)Well, I am not fond of supporting the long term financial sustainment of the Afghan Security Forces. Tell the Afghans to get up and do some work and pay for their own ****.
Pakistan rearrests Mumbai terror suspect | World news | The GuardianNo they are not. Look to the Mumbai bombings/killings and the terrorist in Pakistani jail that was released then it was reversed around the same time as a the school murders.
thought you might find this of interest. It was a re-arrest not revocation of bail.Police inspector Mohammed Arshad told the court that someone had filed a complaint at a police station on the outskirts of Islamabad saying that Lakhvi had abducted his brother-in-law to wage “jihad” six and a half years ago. The judge granted a police request for time to investigate the accusation, extending Lakhvi’s detention for two days.

and "long term security forces" according to the article -so what else to do?
If they are willing to fight for their freedom/country - i'm willing to pay on an international basis - a lot of contributions don't just come from the US.
We got bases, and money commitments worldwide so this isn't new.
I think they have an extractive economy - lots of natural resources, not much else.I would tell them.....create some jobs. Boost a lil economic activity, and then hire some more police. Forget about trying to catch up with the tech for now. Start with the basics.

China has some contracts for the lithium, but with oil prices being where they are..
I'm thinking baby steps here, get rid of the corruption that existed under Karzai, see how it goes

Heya AT. :2wave: Did you see or hear BO's speech on Afghanistan. He claimed it as a success.
While the Taliban laugh and talk about how BO negotiates to end the War they say isn't over.
Our troops are going to be hard pressed having to watch out for the Taliban and with the re-emergence of AQ in Afghanistan.
Trust me. No battle buddy of mine gives Obama ANY credit for ANYTHING having to do with the war. This genius changed the rules of engagement to where we can't fire at the enemy until they have already shot at us. The "wait to get shot" rule is why no service member respects Obama.
Mornin' 11Bravo.That's just one of them.....and now that most know that the Demos and BO are the ones that wanted to drop pay, pharmacy, by 7%. Have been gutting the Military and placing our people more at risk of harm. Their hollow words of what they have to say about us who serve. Should fall on deaf ears. Anytime they show up and try to demonstrate that they care.
Well said. I don't know a single soldier, at least in my company/bat that actually thinks Obama is a good Commander in Chief. Heck, over 70% of the casualties in Afg since 2001 happened under Obama since he changed the rules of engagement. He's a cancer.
Sometimes, one must admit that a situtation is hopeless and that a ground up (top down?) rebuild is required. A "nation" that has never had a functional central government, has a 5% literacy rate and has one paved road cannot be expected to govern itself, much less, create (and control) a viable security force. In order for "democracy" to have any chance of success in a nation, it first requires a population that can make decisions without having them based, nearly entirely, upon corruption and loyalty to "tribal" leaders that maintain power by force.

That's putting the best light on it.And that requires generational evolution which we see no evidence of occurring. Afghanistan is the same way its been for hundreds of years. Until they decide to change internally there nothing we can do for them. So all we can do is drop in from time to time and kill some terrorists.
Obama may declare victory in the US but everyone else in the world knows who won and who lost. Taliban declares 'defeat' of U.S. troops in Afghanistan - Chicago Tribune
Sadder than Vietnam, Somalia?
This isn't your first dance no matter how much anti obama spin you put on it.
