Police turn their backs on Mayor de Blasio during funeral for fallen NYPD cop | Fox News

Hundreds of police officers outside the Queens, N.Y. church Saturday where the funeral of Officer Rafael Ramos was being held turned their backs on Mayor Bill de Blasio as he eulogized the fallen officer who was ambushed last week along with his partner.

I'm sure De Commieo understands why they were shot, and knows they had it coming. Because the police should just give up when someone resists arrest, especially a black man. He's owed something.

NYPD has a right to feel however they feel about de Blasio's comments regarding Eric Garner, but don't be so dishonest that you are implying de Blasio believes dead cops had it coming.

Are you really this full of hate that you believe this?

I was concerned about something like this happening. That is why I wrote a thread not long ago about how important it is for the Police to have respect.

This kind of thing leads to big problems. Now we are seeing riots when a police officer is forced to shoot an armed black person. That black person that pulled a gun on cops at a petrol station the other day needed to be shot. The police had to shoot him because he pulled a gun on them. Even though there is no racism or brutality we see riots. Will there be riots every time a black criminal needs to be shot? Every time one commits a crime? This is why de Blasio is worse than the protesters because when he made speeches about how New York cops had a problem with racism and needed to be retrained he was encouraging the public to distrust all police and that is ridiculous. Obama did the same. The vast majority of cops are good people serving the public in a tough job. Why would the state alienate itself from the people that protect it? Not all New York police are racist and there is no proof of a racist culture being present. The protests were not all about the police force anyway, but mostly to do with the legal system. I agree that blacks seem treated poorly on stats but it is actually poor people that are treated this way across the board. Same with 'police brutality'. You can find plenty of clips of cops arresting white Americans that have resisted and they are every bit as rough with them as with overweight and unhealthy Eric Garner. Garner died because he resisted arrest and was obese and unhealthy - not because the NYPD is racist. The fact is that poor people are far more likely to be belligerent with police or try to resist arrest. This has nothing to do with the NYPD being racist and for the New York Mayor to even suggest it leaves no doubt that this clown de Blasio is an incompetent and dangerous 'leader'.

Michelle Obama wants to tell us that someone was racist to her in Target? Has she seen Pretty Woman. What happened to Julia Roberts? Was she treated like a black person? Or like a poor one? ( in that fancy store I mean ) The same thing happened to Oprah in Paris I think.. (:)

Anyway, why would de Blasio try to exploit the funerals of these dead New York cops when they asked him not to attend their funerals before they died? The fact that de Blasio is using their deaths and funerals for political gain is outrageous in my opinion. Is this de Blasio freak sub-human? What kind of opportunistic freak is this 'man'? De Blasio should stand down. He is the personification of all that is wrong with western democracy and a perfect example of the sub-human political scum that it produces.

I'm glad "De Commieo" understands...Because your post leaves me clueless. What a mumbled mess.

Anyone who sees that the officers symbolically turning their backs on De Blasio is a honorable thing missed the point.

This is not a f-U to De Blasio, this is a message to the people of NY. We are the "blue shield", we come before any law.

We do the job, but our loyalty is to one another...not the people.

You've said it better than anyone could that uses this forum to vent their thoughts and feelings.

In the event the usual idiots don't know what "blue shield" / "code blue" / Blue Wall means, here is the meaning of it;

Blue Code of Silence

The Blue Code of Silence (also known as the Blue Shield[1] or Blue Wall[2]) is the idea of an unwritten rule that exists among police officers not to report on a colleague's errors, misconducts, or crimes. If questioned about an incident of misconduct involving another officer (e.g. during the course of an official inquiry), while following the code, the officer being questioned would claim ignorance of another officer's wrongdoing.

Blue Code of Silence - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the coming months, people should be attuned to more possible police and prosecutor cover ups.

Basically what the NYPD union leader did was throw out the Police / Cop Culture which would normally stop corruption, Pandora's box has been opened.

We'll see how police on the streets react to crime now that they've made their mark and put down the gauntlet.

De Blasio and many (if not most) of the protestors miss the real issue; that police are seen as above the law by the government. That does not require any police "retraining" to remedy - that requires only a prosecutor (government employee) with the balls and integrity to bring charges.

It has been said that a prosecutor (government employee) could get a GJ to indict a ham sandwich, or they may simply skip that GJ process and indict that ham sandwich on their own, yet we see far too few blue ham sandwiches indicted. The government, however, simply refuses to blame itself and must divert attention away from itself by claiming racism or ignorance to be the "real" problem.

Blaming all police for the actions of one officer is no different than blaming all of society for the actions of one criminal. Any politician that tries to claim to be powerless to make the government enforce the law should, indeed, have the entire public turn their back on them.

The police in NYC have made their point and it's time to move on. To prolong this will only serve to provide De Blasio with cover and a level of undeserved sympathy from the vast majority of the public that isn't taking sides here. Hopefully, De Blasio has learned his lesson about gratuitous rhetoric for false political gain and understands now that when you're Mayor you have a higher expectation for calm, reasoned, discourse than you do when running for the job.

Time for both sides to return to professionalism in their jobs and in their demeanors.

Being sore, that is understandable. Perhaps they thought that this funeral service, with the national coverage it received, was the right time to do this.
But I am not sure how the family feels about it. Didn't Officer Ramos' brother say they are ready to forgive?
And shouldn't a funeral be a time of mourning and healing instead of a political spectacle?

Better to have the cops protest in the street chanting 'we want dead protesters! when do we want it? Now!' ??

What may be missed here, is that not only did the NYC policemen turn their backs on de Blasio, all policemen from across the country, and in fact from other countries as well, all turned their back on de Blasio.

This has far more reach than what some may be realizing.

You will have to try and see through your bias to get the real picture here. Three events where criminals have resisted arrest, police have not only done their jobs but were fighting for their own lives. The race baiters and media on the left see this as a political opportunity that they can exploit. They could not care less about the facts.

Now we have two dead cops, just sitting in their car. Not resisting arrest, not committing crimes, not trying to kill anyone. We have Holder, Obama, and DeBlasio calling for retraining and that the cops should be more understanding. That is what is disgusting. Only hard to understand if you have a bias that the police are racist and they are out to kill people based on their racist beliefs. That's where the DeBlasio crew are. Seems to be a few like that on this board.

I doubt the NYPD ever let's this go; as long as De Blasio is in office.

And that is a real problem...The political posts within the NYPD may put the face of working together publicly on De Blasio and the NYPD, while the rank and file will never trust the man....At that point he can not govern the city effectively and should step down.

The police of NY obviously feel that de Blasio has betrayed them in some way. In December he made comments about telling his biracial son to be wary when dealing with cops. They feel outraged that he would somehow think that the accusations are true--that every cop out there is racist. They know that they are doing their jobs correctly and yet the Mayor has the gall to even question their integrity. Now because of de Blasio's inability to show his unwavering support the NYPD, the people who make the city safer, they have turned their backs on him just as he once did to them.
