Air Asia is a pretty good airline, I've flown them a few times. They are much like Southwest, low fare, high capacity. They have always had a good mechanical and safety record.

There is some really nasty weather in that area, hope they find it soon.

Why do you ask? Don't you find it odd that a plane can get lost in an area that is dense with traffic and continously monitored or that a large civilian airplane can go down in airspace that is under European air control and is being simultaneously monitored by AWACS as a war zone without anyone having noticed, if it was hit by a ufo with a signature?

I don't know what to think. I was wondering if you had experience with investigations or aviation...

Investigations of economic and political nature. Not aviation. But I do follow such things and apply methods of my areas of expertise. One such method is to ask why the obvious is not happening.

Air Asia is a good airline to fly, they are based in Malaysia, but have different subsidiary airlines under the same banner that are based in other countries. They also run AirAsia X with A330's for long distance routes, they did some very cheap european flights and was looking at going to the USA. Their fares are obscenely low, and can be bought without much advance time. They do nickle and dime you on extras and baggage, etc.

But, they are a good carrier, well run, their president is well known and they have really made flying in SE Asia convenient and cheap. I got stuck in Phuket when the protestors took over both Bangkok airports and they were very quick to reimburse me, I had to drive back up to Bangkok and Chiang Mai, and missed out on going to Cambodia, but prompt refunds, etc.

Good Lord. Did you miss all the coverage of the still missing airplane? They talked about this endlessly. ATC is not what people think it is and someone can hit a switch in the cockpit and kill all the communications.

I'm in on some of the airline employee geek sites, this news is in.

Airplane wreckage reportedly found east of Belitung Island, in Indonesia. No confirmation if Air Asia 8501
