    Heya Pete. Good News.....huh?

'The Interview' Screenings: Where Can You See It?.....

In a surprise reversal, Sony Pictures has authorized select independent theaters to show the banned comedy The Interview, meaning a few lucky audiences will get a chance to see James Franco and Seth Rogen assassinate North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un before the New Year.

The film opens in the theaters listed below (and we will continue to update this list; hat tip to Deadline and Mashable) on Dec. 25. Now the question is: Can the film live up to its IMDB rating?.....snip~

I don't know if I'll get gigged for this. I don't think I should considering the fact that it's breaking news and it's being posted directly from the source. The Interview is now available for download. Sony has given a massive middle finger to NK and decided to release the movie online. Admittedly for around the same prices a movie theater would charge. Let's see what the reaction is when NK gets their Wifi password back and realize the movie is now out there for the world to see.

    No surprise.

Anyone want to bet that Sony will make out like a champ on this deal?

I still smell a publicity stunt.

They are basically forcing overseas people to use VPNs or pirate the movie.. and instead they could have earned a pretty sum if they had just bothered to release it world wide.. utter fail.

No worries I will get this movie and I was going to actually for the first time in over a decade buy a movie just to stick it to North Korea.. but **** that.
The post above simply doesn't understand how movie distribution works. Sony doesn't have the rights to this movie worldwide, Sony gave distribution rights to other companies who then decide how the movie will be distributed. In this case, the distributor is Columbia. Columbia could have decided to distribute the movie worldwide, but the actual reach for that is entirely dependent on what model it used to release the film. The traditional % agreement went out the window the minute the movie was no longer going to be shown in theaters. The ancillary rights belong to Columbia too. That includes the rights to show the movie on networks and streaming sites. So for all we know, this was a quick decision made on the spot by Columbia with Sony's approval to release the movie as long as it wasn't in theaters. There will be more to come once Columbia, not Sony, strikes up a deals with more sharing sites.

So no, this isn't Sony's fault, this is a distributing issue and that lays squarely with Columbia.

And it seems you dont understand how it works.. Who owns Columbia? On.. Sony Pictures!

No, Sony decided it and Columbia followed orders.

Yes it is, since Sony owns Columbia.

Anyone watch it yet? Worth all the international incident hype?

Absolutely I will take that bet. Google Play and Youtube Movies (which I didn't even realize existed) don't make the kind of money that a nationwide theatrical release does.

Considering the limited number of movie theatres that are showing it, then they might just earn more via Google Play and Youtube... if it had not been for the fact that it is now out on torrent sites because the boneheads at Sony did not release it world wide.. so.
