Actually it's about as straight forward as it gets: what country in the middle east are we presently occupying?
Of course it depends upon how one defines "occupy".

If it is defined has having military forces present, then we are occupying quite a few countries there.

How would you define the word?

So Canada is occupied by the USA, and to a lesser extent the USA is occupied by Canada?

To occupy a country is more than to just have some military forces present. We have military troops in Japan, South Korea, Germany and other countries with the blessing of their governments. I think anyone with common sense knows we are not occupying those countries -- at least have not for a long long time. Typically occupying takes place when a country is defeated in war, and a substantial amount of troops are present to keep the peace and control assets, at least for the time being. And usually the sovereign government of those countries is not in control.

So no, we are not occupying any countries in the middle east as of this time. We no longer occupy Iraq or Afghanistan.
