So sad. I guess he couldn't a little help from his friends.

    RIP Joe!

It was at Manny's in NYC back in 1977. I was a 16 year old kid buying his first real bass guitar: a Rickenbacker 4001 - the same instrument Chris Squire of Yes, my idol at the time, played. Anyway I'm sitting there with the thing pretending I know what I'm doing when a voice says to me "Hey kid, we need a bassplayer for a couple of tunes wanna sit in." It was Joe who then put on an inpromptu 1 song set with me and two store employees as accompaniment. I have no idea how I got through the thing, or even what the song was - all I remember is it was a I-IV-V blues. Everyone had a ball: Joe, the store guys, the customers. I didn't. I was too damn scared to have fun. In retrospect the memory always makes me smile though. It was and remains the highlight of my musical non-career.

    RIP Joe Cocker.
    Very cool story.

Quite possibly my favorite vocalist. I'd heard his health wasn't good. Sorry to hear of his passing.
