A machine that administers sedatives recently began treating patients at a Seattle hospital. At a Silicon Valley hotel, a bellhop robot delivers items to people’s rooms. Last spring, a software algorithm wrote a breaking news article about an earthquake that The Los Angeles Times published.
Although fears that technology will displace jobs are at least as old as the Luddites, there are signs that this time may really be different. The technological breakthroughs of recent years — allowing machines to mimic the human mind — are enabling machines to do knowledge jobs and service jobs, in addition to factory and clerical work.

Well, don't say I didn't tell you guys...During the wonderful threads in here dealing with the numerous demands of self important dolts that want things like Walmart, and McDonald's to pay so called "living wages".... Here comes the robots and they can all pound sand....Happy?

Well given my experience with computerized telephone systems' ability to connect me to the right person, or even understand why I am calling, I won't hold my breath.

to be fair, robots were coming regardless of what the " living wage" crowd says or does...

it's a good thing that robots are coming to take over menial tasks.....it's bad that there will be some folks fighting like hell to keep humans doing those menial tasks.

As these robots get more and more advanced "menial tasks" won't be the only things they will be doing, and those humans they replace are generally low skilled workers, that will now be out of work, and on the tax payer dole....

well, i suggest they get new skills then, or forever be relegated to poverty.

Ok, I don't disagree, but thinking out loud here...and looking at what I am going through with my son...Let's say one of them wants to go through welding school....$7K....Truck Driving school? 5K....Where, or who is going to pay for that....?

Uhh, are you seriously under the impression that this wouldn't have happened if they didn't want minimum wage to keep up with inflation?

25 years of experience in Electronics, closed loop controls, High Voltage distribution and power quality analysis tells me I have a bright future, troubleshooting, programming hacking these so called " robots "

Bring em on.

I'm saying that when robots are less expensive than the demanding employees, and don't call out sick, and threaten to sue at the drop of a hat....Then it is inevitable...But, I do note that your approach seems to be to just ignore it...

Ok. And your approach is to just literally murder the poor.

This is a fun game. Let's make up more things about each other.

What did I make up? Look, I am genuinely concerned that this growing cast of malcontents, screaming for high wage, in jobs that don't demand high wage are going to soon enough be out of a job, and become MORE discontented with their lot in life...Either you want to discuss rationally what could be done now about this, or you want to bring that on...Which is it?

Oh... so you actually believed this?

Because if it did, then it smacks of you saying what is akin to since it was going to happen anyway that we should just not talk about it....Good God...

Would you like fries with that? ;)

The robot will bring that right out to you, sir. Please take a seat at table #24.

Do you have a robot wheelchair that can come pick me up and carry me to table #24? All this not working is hard on the joints.

You made a leap. Figure it out.

Please insert your federal entitlement card, sir, as we may only grant special privileges to federally recognized minorities. ;)

Making me show ID is a poll tax. Said response verifies my federally recognized minority status for the purpose of gaining priority access to the VIP room of one level of Dante's Inferno

Translation: 'I just got busted, so now I'm going to use snark, and childish tactic'.... Yeah, ok.

"This was going to happen at any level of minimum wage" does not in any way imply "let's not ever do anything." You made that up. You got busted, and you're trying to cover it with this false air of superiority.

Letting them live or die based upon their own labors, or lack thereof, is not murder. It's Natural selection. If there are jobs available but they don't want to educate themselves or otherwise earn those jobs, then yeah, let natural selection take place.

Maybe what all these entitled socialist minded lazy idiots really need is a good old fashioned extinction event.

As if they will not improve as the technology evolves. It's not like the technology will remain static and the robots will remain at a low quality level in their labors, they are not progressives or other socialist.
