Sadly, that should have been done some time ago, and we have a weak POTUS. A leader would have lead, not Obama. Putin can read him like an open book.
well, kudos for admitting that you support boots on the ground interventionism. most people would back away from that and only support sanctions. you have to be pretty dedicated to support hot war with Russia. wrong, but dedicated.

We wont be invading anyone, unlike Russia. Weren't you complaining about strawmen earlier?

It wont be a hot war, unless Russia (and its "militias") sends its proxy forces west. Letting them go on unopposed (as they are doing in Sweden, etc) is a recipe for disaster.

For some people there is no nuance and it's either War or Not War. Sending troops to Kiev and to reinforce the Ukrainians along the Dnieper isn't an intermediate step to be taken as a means of establishing a trip-wire it's obviously WAR.

Its already a war, or at least a proxy war.

I was agreeing. I think troops should be dispatched to Kiev and Odessa under whatever guise is necessary in order to delineate a maximum limit of Russian and Russian proxy advances. Furthermore we should financially support the Ukrainian government as it seeks to double its military budget in anticipation of the threat posed by Russia.

so, let's say that Russia won't give up Crimea, even with the stupid sanctions. what's our next move?

Turn Ukraine into a highly capable frontline state within the Western bulwark. Do the same with Georgia. Stop pretending that we can have a normal relationship with Russia and acknowledge them as a severe threat to a democratic world order.

stop pretending that we can or should do anything about this. we could collapse Russia's entire economy, and Crimea would still be part of Russia if that's what the region wants. and if it's not what the region wants, then Europe should be handling it, not us.

The United States involved itself in Ukraine at the very onset of independence in 1990-1991 (Budapest Memorandum). Every important US government official from Biden on down has visited and supported Kyiv since Maidan. The Ukraine Freedom Act of 2014 has unanimously passed both houses of Congress and designates Ukraine as a Major Non-NATO Ally (MNNA).
