Lawmakers strike deal on $1T funding bill to avoid shutdown

Read more @: Lawmakers strike deal on $1T funding bill to avoid shutdown

Good news! We adverted a shut down! The nutty tea party conservatives wont take us down that road again.

I'm not one to count my chickens, but it IS encouraging that Reid is not likely to drop this amongst all the other 300+ bills the House has sent him. Of course, that's not the end of the story, either. While it's unlikely that Obama would veto a budget bill that reaches his desk, I'm thinking that he WOULD veto it if he was able to achieve some kind of political payback from doing so. It takes at least two to shut down the government, after all.

Seriously? so if the government has no money to run an open air pavillion, the thing to do is to send paying guards to keep people out of it?

glad to see you support jack bootery. lol

Come on man, you have to admit that was wrong to do.

Ill tell you what was wrong to do. Shutting down the federal government because the GOP didnt get there way on a bill that passed the senate in 2009, and then didnt get their way in a USSSC decision. Ill tell you what was wrong, was shutting down the federal government that cost the US economy $24 billion.

So hurting 3rd parties (the American people) to be vindictive to the opposition party doesn't mean **** to you?

You support spending more money on keeping something closed during a government shutdown than it would cost to not shut it down.

Hurting 3rd parties? :lamo The GOP shut down the ****ing government cuz they didnt get their way on the ACA, and once the gov shutdown as they came out of the chambers they were saying "good job to eachother"..

Awhh pooey I didnt get to go to the National Mall which is a NATIONAL PARK ran by the federal government... **** the cost to the economy, as long as the GOP pulls a political stunt, bring some vets to the mall and say "open this national park but **** the rest of them" I shall stand behind that!

GOP didn't pull that stunt.

I suppose when he sent the jack boots to shut down a park that was privetly funded, that wasn't vindictive either?

(I have a ton of these.)

Are you kidding me? Since when is congress responsible for making the president's campaign promises come true? The list of things that congress did not do (or did incorrectly) is nearly endless but that does not give the POTUS the power to make new laws.

Obama has not made any new law.

Reid supports the bill.
The question is whether Boehner can get 218 votes out of his own caucus.
Especially with all the legislative goodies that go against the so-called GOP stand against the deficit .

The question is will the Senate approve the bill? Or like so many others sent to the Senate will Reid reject it?

GOP Sen. Coburn is threatening to hold up the Defense bill, which must be passed before the House spending bill is taken up. You forgot to mention that in your Reid rant--Reid who supports both bills .

Let me guess it was Obama's fault last time the government shutdown as well?

Of course it was. Obama didn't like the fact that Republicans wanted to defund Obamacare so Obama said "fine then I won't pass a budget and I'll let the government shut down". He was well within his powers to do so, I just wish when the media was talking about it, they would of mentioned this little tidbit of truth along with saying Republicans wanted to shut down government.

I didnt know presidents have ultimate control over the budget. They can propose a budget (as required by law) but they cannot alone pass one, that is the job of Congress...

He was well within his powers to do so,
To do what

What that Obama didnt pass a budget?

Dem, don't tell me you forgot the President has veto powers. Anything he doesn't like he can just veto, such as the budget. It is what it is after all. And I don't blame Obama so much as just accept that he's president and within his powers to do it.

Then you continue to agree that the GOP House can attach legislative policy riders and poison bills to funding bills that initiate the shutdown process, just as they are doing this week.

The mistake by DEMs was not hammering the GOP for twelve months on this before the 2014 election .

Ok. Didnt know any budget he vetoted. Can you point that one out for me?

Ok. Whats your point then?

Do you know of any laws that aren't passed today without everyone knowing what's going to happened? I mean there's the Keystone recently but beyond that? Everyone knew, as Obama had made it clear, what were his conditions to passing a budget and what he would veto.

Ok. Whats your point then?

My point being, that it was never about what the Right wanted, but what Obama would or would not veto.

They tried NIMBY. The problem is the Democrats were doing the same things, and they've also been in charge of 2/3 of the government for the past 4 years, and in charge of all of it for 2 years before that. So, when you look around at the state of the nation, responsibility ultimately falls to them.

Thats Right Coburn is going to filibuster NDAA and cutting the troops pay, their housing, and their prescription drugs co-pays. Which he should as this was played with and the Demos starting out with a 7% decrease for troops. The Repubs are complicit since they should have fought it.

Then to top it off the Demos thru in last minute riders for Land Grants. Over 500 pages. NO wonder Harry Reid luvs it.

I don't care which party it is.....No more throwing things onto a bill that have nothing to do with that bill. Names need to be put out as to who did so. This way the American people can see who is scamming and putting that hand into a cookie jar.

Maybe the Demos should stop all that lying about how much they are for the troops. They don't even want to give military the same cost of living increase as civilians.

Once again? Did you notice which party got it's ass handed to it and which one didn't, in the midterms?

Yep, good point! .... in the battle between the party of wimps and the party of fools, the wimps screwed themselves by not running away from the work. It did help that the prevailing party enjoyed a brisk prevailing tail wind this time round. That wind reverses in 2016, so the wimps have a shot.

It's time to get rid of Boehner, as we got rid of Cantor.

Boehner has proven he's a gutless, useless idiot, and you know he's a gutless, useless idiot when Sociliasts are happy.

**** him and the party. They were elected to stop the idiot in the White House... instead they joined him.

It's time to target and gut the useless jerks. If we're going to have this idiocy, if there isn't going to be pushback, then let Demokrats do it. Let them have it. Let them own it.

These supposed Republicans are doing great damage. It's not leadership, it's cowering.

To me this immigration thing is a red herring. If the Democrats want to push immigration, I would advise the Republicans to concentrate on the economy. It is like 2009 and 2010 when Americans elected the Democrats to fix the economy and then they concentrated on healthcare. Letting the Democrats concentrate on immigration and other stuff will in the long run help the Republicans if they concentrate on the economy.

When asked Which one of the following do you think is most important for the president to work on
right now? [RANDOMIZE LIST]
Dec 7-9 2014
The economy 38%
Terrorism from groups like ISIS 21%
Health care 12%
Immigration 10%
Race relations 9%
(Other) 2%
(All) 7%
(Don’t know) 1%

Sorry, I screwed that up. I meant to say the Dems screwed themselves by running away and not defending their work.

The Cromnibus is now in deep trouble in the House, not to mention the Senate.

Boehner cant get 218 votes out of his own caucus, an ongoing 4-year problem for him. Boehner is now begging Obama for 50 or so House votes and DEMs are fed up with Obama.

Sounds like a very short stopgap is coming followed by a 3-4 month CR. At which time Boehner has a far more conservative caucus and DEMs a more liberal one, exacerbating this problem .

Boehner continues to be impotent, not being able to get 218 votes from his own caucus.

Obviously that's Reid's fault .
