Dallas (CNN) -- The U.S. Supreme Court has delayed the scheduled execution on an inmate on death row in Texas amid questions about a psychologist who testified that blacks and Hispanics were more likely to commit future crimes.

This is a man who had been diagnosed with schizophrenia years before he shot his wife's parents to death, and a man who was never cured of his disease. Schizophrenia cannot be ''cured''...It can however be controlled by drugs..the trouble starts when the said schizophrenic does not take them...

Shameful, but not surprising. I've seen this happen before. Black people getting 20 years for having an ounce of pot, etc.

If Christ didn't believe in capital punishment then he would have died for no reason. Also, Jesus could have let at least one of the theives next to him "off the hook" or off the cross, but he allowed him to face the death penalty for his theivery.

In almost any case where an insanity-retardation defense is used, there are two paid psychiatric "professionals" on each side. One says they are, one says they are not. So at best, psychologists are only right half the time in these cases. A coin toss could do no worse.

The mental illness defense in my opinion is a bunch of bull. What I believe should be the deciding factor in any such criminal case is: Did the person doing the crime know what he or she did was wrong?

Therefore, if there was any attempt by the accused to lie about the crime, to hide, to flee or cover-up evidence of the criminal act---then they knew what they were doing WAS wrong and should get the full measure of justice. Rope, bullets, gas, injections or whatever.

From a conservative standpoint, the death penalty ought to be abolished in Texas. The government should not have that much power over an individual citizen. In addition, there have been hundreds of cases now in which the penalty was applied erroneously or even fraudulently. Texas government can't get its act together; it should be stripped of that power.
