Dallas (CNN) -- The U.S. Supreme Court has delayed the scheduled execution on an inmate on death row in Texas amid questions about a psychologist who testified that blacks and Hispanics were more likely to commit future crimes.

This is a man who had been diagnosed with schizophrenia years before he shot his wife's parents to death, and a man who was never cured of his disease. He now has a reprieve, and there are so called Christians in Texas calling for him to be executed. Yea, that's what Jesus would do, right? El wrongo, chemical breath. In fact, Jesus had a lot to say about fake Christians, and that, when the end of days came, some would awaken to everlasting life, and others to everlasting shame. He also said that there was a special place in hell for hypocrites.

But let's get off the religious arguments for a second, and discuss whether or not we in Texas are no better than savages. Yea, the man committed the crime. Still, do we execute the mentally ill? It seems we do if he happens to be black. On the other hand, we give a hand up to those who kill 4 people while drunk, because he happens to be rich and white, and suffering from a mental illness called affluenza.

Don't give me hell over this. The facts speak for themselves. The white guy got off with a slap on the wrist. The black guy is still on death row, despite a reprieve. Racism? You betcha it is.

Schizophrenia cannot be ''cured''...It can however be controlled by drugs..the trouble starts when the said schizophrenic does not take them...

All -isms and phobias manifest themselves in the justice system, but to make your case, it would need strikingly similar facts not completely different ones.

Shameful, but not surprising. I've seen this happen before. Black people getting 20 years for having an ounce of pot, etc.

I don't know how to fix it, either. The system has to be fixed, and that will never happen. Bunch of rich white old guys slapping the wrist of a bunch of rich white young guys.

Seems like a lot of bait.

As far as the article goes, I am glad to hear he wasn't executed.

If Christ didn't believe in capital punishment then he would have died for no reason. Also, Jesus could have let at least one of the theives next to him "off the hook" or off the cross, but he allowed him to face the death penalty for his theivery.

In almost any case where an insanity-retardation defense is used, there are two paid psychiatric "professionals" on each side. One says they are, one says they are not. So at best, psychologists are only right half the time in these cases. A coin toss could do no worse.

The mental illness defense in my opinion is a bunch of bull. What I believe should be the deciding factor in any such criminal case is: Did the person doing the crime know what he or she did was wrong?

Therefore, if there was any attempt by the accused to lie about the crime, to hide, to flee or cover-up evidence of the criminal act---then they knew what they were doing WAS wrong and should get the full measure of justice. Rope, bullets, gas, injections or whatever.

One correction, Jesus forgave the thief.

Of course, but Christ still let the Roman system of captial punishment to take place the execute all 3 of them.

That's because under the old testament, there could be no forgiveness of sins without the shedding of blood.

Looking at this case in context with similar cases is also important.

So Buck sits on death row awaiting an appeals court ruling on his bid for a new sentencing hearing. Not a new trial, you understand. No one disputes his guilt -- or the monstrousness of his crime. But about the sentence, there is plenty dispute, enough that his surviving victim and Linda Geffin, a prosecutor who helped convict him, both think he should get a new hearing. In 2000, Sen. John Cornyn, then Texas attorney general, identified six capital cases, including Buck's, in which Quijano gave similar testimony and conceded the state erred in allowing race to be used as a sentencing factor.

The other five defendants -- all black or Hispanic -- received new sentencing hearings. All were re-sentenced to death. Buck was denied a new hearing.

From a conservative standpoint, the death penalty ought to be abolished in Texas. The government should not have that much power over an individual citizen. In addition, there have been hundreds of cases now in which the penalty was applied erroneously or even fraudulently. Texas government can't get its act together; it should be stripped of that power.
