Watch NASA Orion Test Mission, LIVE!

You paid billions in taxes to make this pipe dream go, so might as well be entertained! Personally I would shut the whole program down, since its unnecesary, and we cant afford it. It has nothing to do with protecting my life or freedoms. Leave Space to the free market and the Air Force.

NASA’s Big Stakes With Orion Test Flight Include Mars Plans - ABC News

NASA Administrator and former astronaut Charlie Bolden says there’s a lot riding on tomorrow’s $370 million test flight of the new space capsule known as Orion.
If all goes according to plan, the unmanned Orion capsule will launch Thursday morning atop a Delta IV Heavy rocket at Kennedy Space Center in Florida and make two loops around Earth over 4 ˝ hours. The craft will test a variety of technologies for spaceflight beyond Earth orbit, including a heat shield that must protect future crews from a scorching re-entry at 20,000 mph.

Only if its related to existing powers. Otherwise, they need states permission to spend money on it. There is no general research power in the constitution. Only the promotion of science through awarding of patents.

Lockheed Martin is one of my Customers.

They have a nondescript warehouse just offsite ( Johnson's Space Center ) with no sign and or identifying features that would designate it as a Lockheed Martin facility.

Its an old Movie Studio and is called by me and a few who work with me " The Moon landing building "...

No, I believe we went to the Moon ofcourse but this Building which has been around since the early 60s is just too perfect a place to stage a moon landing.

It still has the old dressing rooms and make up rooms and a underground film vault for the old nitro-cellulous films ( very flamable ) that were used back in the day.

Well Lockheed uses it for storage and R and D and also got the Contract to build the Orion capsule.

They built a full scale mock-up of the capsule a few years ago out of plywood and kept it under a tarp in that building.

Well I had to go by there and meet a Facilities contact one day and noticed they had the Tarp off.

A few NASA engineers standing around so I decided to make a joke.

I said " That thing will never survive re-entry "....

Wow, you would think by their reaction I insulted all of their Mothers simultaneously.

Now I support funding for NASA and the Orion project.

    Launch cancelled.

Do you consider the tax dollars which paid for the Apollo missions wasted?

They, amongst other things were largely responsible for the development of decent computers. And communication satellites. And lots of other stuff.

This new space ship will play a big part in the industrialization of space. This will be the greatest single leap in human wealth ever.

The cost is less than will be spent on the next Navy air craft carrier. Are you expecting to get lots back out of that one?

Yes, those things would have been developed anyway. And probably faster and better and cheaper.

The whole program is too little too slow. It's tailored to the lack of cash, and stretched far beyond the possibility of keeping staff active and engaged, making each slow step more complicated, since the people involved in the last step will have moved on, retired or died.

And really, all they did was reinvent Apollo. Whats the point of going to Mars anyway? To say we did it? At the very least they should be wasting the money on a permanent habitat in orbit or on the moon before they even bother with anything else.
