CNN only had half the clip on their page, but I managed to find the whole thing on another page. Hope that is okay with the rules, and if not I'll post that one. But I think it's important to hear from someone who is Black, brave enough to say the things he is saying. And he has a lot to say, so what stands out to you guys? To me, hearing a black call out Al Sharpton was especially nice to see.

I'm putting this as separate because I already posted, but it's interesting and wanted to include it. It's a rebuttal from Charles' friend and co-host Kenny Smith. I'd love to see an interview with these two guys discuss this, because I know it wouldn't be the usual adversarial tactics where one is arguing over the other.

Kenny Smith's open letter to Charles Barkley about Ferguson

I actually saw much of this interview on CNN. The guy has a brass-plated set of balls, and my esteem of him just went through the roof. He actually had studied the evidence, and *gasp!* used that to form his opinion... and it's not a popular one. He's going to get crucified for it, but damn. Brains, looks and an intelligent, working mind. I want to have his babies!

Seriously that was a gutsy move. I give him kudos and credit.

When someone who has made millions of dollars uses the color of his skin as "permission" to call out those of similar hue who are complaining about what they perceive as socioeconomic injustice, though I have no respect for the agitator ways of Al Sharpton, it simply doesn't endear me to Charles Barkley.

I'm a fan of Barkley for his ballin' ability and straight-talking sports commentating when he doesn't cross the border into the land of brashly absurd.

Stay there, Charles, for that's where you've earned the right to belong.

If you stray inappropriately, like Ditka, and the Rams' "hands up" boys, you'll lose my respect.

Don't use your celebrity status in one field to think for a moment that you have a legitimate voice in another arena simply because a media whore sticks a microphone in your face.

Show some integrity, and simply and honorably decline the invitation to join the media whore's stable of prostitutes.

If he were just saying what ever other black has been saying, then I'd agree with you. But Barkley is taking a stand that is opposite from seemingly 99% of blacks that you will see on TV. And it's important for someone to actually stand up and take the other side, because then you have the oppurtunity of having a discussion. Up until this point, it's been very one sided.

Besides, even if Chuck wasn't a millionaire, he'd still be saying these things. That's just who he is, he says whatever's on his mind and don't care what others think:

And by the way, like a man who don't give a ****, he ain't apologizing:

Chuck will always be Chuck.

I don't agree with Barkley, but I can understand why White people who like minimize injustices against Black people do. He's like their "black friend" they can point to justify their contentment with the status quo.

So what you are saying is they judge him by the content of his character? OUTRAGEOUS!

At a time when a white person is quickly labeled a racist for simply disagreeing with the President's policies, I think agreement with Barkley's statements goes a bit deeper than the laughably bigoted observation you provided.

The problem is that a grand jury found nothing to charge Wilson on, so blacks should save their pillaging and looting (wrong under any circumstance) for when an injustice is actually done. Otherwise they will continue to get no respect. The Black Community, black civil rights leaders and Obama continue to be wrong on every turn when they have picked out a single incident to spend their civil rights capital on. That's why people are sick of this ****. It's not that no one believes there is never any racism, it's that the Black Community makes an ass of itself for their continued belief in lying scumbags like Al Sharpton, who is wrong all the time. He makes $millions on being wrong and has yet to do one thing that has brought real justice to blacks. The other big problem is that the Black Community continually ignores it's own behavior when it's pointed out to them. Black on black crime is largely ignored by the community as a cause for anything, because they don't want to accept the fact that much of the problem is internal. I made a statement about stereotypes being human nature in another thread, and the Black Community is doing zero to try and change that image (speaking of the common gangsta image promoted for the last 20 years). What are gangsters? They are crooks. So if you want to promote an image associated with crooks, don't blame people for forming a negative impression of you. But remember, Brown wasn't shot because he looked like a gangster, he was shot because he acted like one.

Kenny Smith's open letter to Charles Barkley about Ferguson

Kenny Smith is a moron. So he says it is due to lack of trust....but where was the honesty and reverence of Mr. Brown when he punched the cop and fought with him in his squad car? Sounds like it is a two way street Mr. Smith. Doesn't trust work both ways? Maybe when young black males stop acting like violent thugs, they will gain some trust. Look at the crime stats, it doesn't take a genius to see where the highest crime rates are.
Why must black youth be so confrontational and resort to violence in a split second? Black youth are unpredictable, and unless you are out on the streets dealing with the same crap as they deal with day in and day out, who are you to judge Kenny? Its almost as if the evidence doesn't matter to those who only see black vs. white. I guess the cop should have just let Brown keep punching him and just steal his weapon.
If the officer was shot that day, it wouldn't still be in the news today. Since it was white on black, it is still in the news and there are riots over it. Evidence doesn't matter, and this is just the beginning of this type of thing. The underlying problem is the lack of jobs and a sense of hopelessness. This isn't just a black problem either. There is a lot of unrest out there due to the struggling economy, job situation, sensational lying media, and lying politicians.

You pretty much put the ball on the tee, grabbed the Louisville, and knocked it out of Ferguson with that.

The reason the black community is getting less and less respect is that it virtually uniformly refuses to look at itself in the mirror and acknowledge its self-inflicted problems.

There is nothing that cops, whites, government, or the judicial system can do to fix those repetitive internal cultural issues. The black community is going to have to recognize it and address it by itself.

Can we talk about how much of a raging racist you are?

So I guess all the troubles with blacks today are from white people is that it? Clueless.

He's like their "black friend" they can point to justify their contentment with the status quo.

That's a bunch of bull.

I respect what Charles Barkley said because his opinions were based on the actual facts of that case, instead of a bunch of politically correct, unsubstanciated, race-baiting BS that 90% of the black people being interviewed are spewing...

People aren't always color blind, but the facts are, and it's refreshing to hear a black person's opinion on this case that's actually centered on those facts.

Outstanding sir... I tip my hat to you.
