Looks like some of the people of Ferguson are going with their own security to protect their livelihood. Oath Keepers have arrived in Ferguson. What say ye?

When night falls on Ferguson, Missouri, Sam Andrews gets to work. Andrews – dressed in full camouflage and armed with an assault rifle and handgun – climbs to the roof of a dentist’s office to begin his nightly surveillance. He’s a member of the Oath Keepers, a group taking up armed positions on the streets and rooftops with the intent of protecting local businesses.

While some business owners are embracing the presence of Andrews and other do-it-yourself patrolmen with the Oath Keepers, many others – including police – are uncomfortable with the group’s mission. St. Louis County Police declined an interview with ABC News, but confirmed that it is investigating whether the Oath Keepers are breaking the law by providing security without a license.....snip~

Heya Jango. :2wave: Well they haven't started hunting down the instigators. But it is a start.

Where did those punks the Black Panthers all of a sudden disappear to?

They shouldn't hunt them down either, that's vigilantism and one hell of a slippery slope into the abyss. However, defending businesses that the police and National Guard and D.H.S. and the F.B.I. won't is honorable.

I would disagree about hunting down the instigators.....the Police stated they had pics of these people. If such is the case.....they should have been arrested and locked up.

If the police won't go after them.....the people can use Private Detectives. This way Punks like the Black Panthers know they just can't run away after the trouble they start.

Better yet......where are all the Anti Gun groups. With Oath Keepers being there. They will have a new tangent to work with and try to confuse things some more.

"...an increasingly tyrannical president" referring to the lamest of lame-duck presidents. Buncha jackasses- what do they see themselves doing, sniping from the roofs?

Oh, too right! I know any business owner should feel better about his security knowing there's a jackass with a rifle on his roof.

I'm just saying the Oath Keepers shouldn't be the ones doing the manhunting.

Well we know they wont be.....but if the people of Ferguson want them for security. Not much many can do about it.

The state needs to get their cut of the action first though so the Oath Keepers can be on the "right side of the law."

Yeah, and we see they are looking at the issue if they have a license.....Right away.

Re: Oath Keepers Guard Ferguson's Streets and Rooftops, Drawing Police Opposition....

I don't know them but I did just read the article so thanks for sharing that.

Back in the very early 1980s I was home from college for the Christmas/January break, and my job (I always worked over breaks to get beer money) was a teller in a bank. I always worked the 11-7 shift at the drive up window, it was a little tiny branch. I also always worked with another girl home from college. Across the street was the Morris County Mall (in NJ) and in November a high school girl who worked there was grabbed on her way to the parking lot late at night, and stabbed to death by a monster. Not long after another young girl was kidnapped from her car by the same monster and also killed. My mother was a wreck about me & the other girl walking alone to our cars after we locked up for the night and I wasn't happy either. One day the Guardian Angels (Curtis Sliwa's group) showed up in town and went to all the businesses near the mall asking if anyone wanted regular protection. My boss said he was worried about us and next thing you know, every night at 7 pm like clockwork one of the guys in the red berets showed up to escort us both to our cars and watch as we drove away. I remember it like it was yesterday and I remember thinking that I would be forever grateful to people whose mission it is to protect innocent people from bad guys, and the comfort their presence gave me.

Well, I heard Ferguson had another night of festivities. But I didn't hear about any Oath Keepers making the news.

I have mixed feelings.

1) I like that some people are actually willing to stand up for civil order.

2) Are the police offended because these "oath keepers" can do a better job than they can?

3) If something does happen, what are they actually going to do? Shoot them? Seriously? That would be chargeable as murder, wouldn't it? Given the circumstances I don't think they could legitimately claim any form of self-defense as they knowingly and purposely placed themselves in a potentially hostile situation.

4) Considering #3 above, and the fact that they don't have the same kind of legal consideration and immunity that the police do, I don't see them shooting anyone (except in some odd scenario and/or some individual hot head acting rash), so... what's the point?

Comes off as a combination of legitimate civic duty and small penis syndrome.

It says the police were looking into the legality of their license, to be Armed Security.

What would a Wells Fargo Armored Car Security Guard do if some came to take all that cash they carry?

I am sure with some being former Law Enforcement. They would give a warning before they fired on someone unless attacked.

I don’t know where they came from, but I have to thank God they showed up,” Crider said. “We wouldn’t be standing here working today. We wouldn’t have a building.” What separates the Oath Keepers from other militia groups is that they recruit men and women of the military and law enforcement....snip~

Although, I don't know if the women who are sticking up for these guys are into small penis syndrome. But then they don't seem to be complaining.

And they (the "oath keepers") might be helping. Even if they won't shoot, having someone point a rifle at you saying they will is still an intimidating factor.

Re: Oath Keepers Guard Ferguson's Streets and Rooftops, Drawing Police Opposition....

1. If they're defending their own property, fine, as long as it doesn't go beyond that.

2. If they're hired or contracted by another person to guard their property, fine, as long as it doesn't go beyond that.

Outside of that it becomes a grey area at best
