The St. Louis Rams’ ‘Hands Up, Don’t Shoot’ Protest [W:256]

I never claimed white people are oppressed. I would argue that poor rural white do not have the same depenent welfare state as urban poor do.

What about poor rural blacks?

Real question:

Who right now is at work, and on this site making political statements?

I'm off today. And not on my employer's computer.

Can you tell me who on this site is making political statements while wearing a uniform that was provided to them by their employer so that we can all see the employer's name?

One reason I love this site is to watch the constant hypocrisy of those who self identify as Right Libertarians pretending to love freedom and liberty and individualism and then going through all sorts of twists and turns to condemn people exercising their rights if it is not on the right side of the political continuum.

Burning **** down, and looting is not "liberty, freedom".

She only defends the freedom she personally agrees with. Typical right-winger.

These players did nothing wrong. I wish this coming Sunday every player in the league would follow suit.

Nice.

Example of whose freedom I personally agree with who was protesting incorrectly on national television while in their employer's uniform? I'll wait.

Of course it does. Simply compare the demographics of black males in society with the incarceration rate. There are only two possible explanations:

1- far too many black males are inherently deviates coming from an inferior race and culture which disproportionately manifests itself in low intelligence and violent criminal behavior placing them closer to predatory animals than humans, or
2- centuries of slavery and Jim Crow have wreaked untold damage upon African Americans as a collective group in the USA causing all manner of sociological malfunctions impacting them at a greater rate than other groups in our nation and despite some efforts, we still have a very long way to go to actual equality in all phases of our society.

I pick the second.

3. Black males are more likely to grow up in a culture that encourages, even mythologizes, criminal behavior while being enabled by others who choose to minimize if not deny individual responsibility, without a decent father figure capable of turning them from the path of least resistance.

Want to know how we can tell?

Decades ago, when your theory would predict those effects would be stronger, the actual incidence is weaker. It is the loss of the family structure and the rise of the idiotic child-man "honor" culture complete with acceptance and even promotion of violence and crime that actually go far to explain today's disparity.

Seriously, to call your post a strawman would be an insult to strawmen.

Where did I say "Exclusive"? Do you deny there is a "collective identity" in poor urban populations whether it's south boston, or the south bronx?

'Acting White' Remains a Barrier for Black Education - Reason.com
Acting white - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Talking white: Black people’s disdain for proper English and academic achievement is a myth.

Am I supposed to post articles about "talking black"? There are probably tips in Rapper magazine.

Possibly. Maybe the Tea Party is free to move to a country where the government keeps their hands off of people's government run Medicare. Should we round up everybody who expresses an opinion that differs from the official line of the government and deport them?

The Tea Partiers as also free to leave. Remind me of the last time a bunch of Tea Partiers protested on national television while in their employer's uniform?

What do you mean "it does"?

I pick the second as well, and I also will add the glorification by pop culture of the so called "thug lifestyle", and the culture within the black community where an getting an education can get you branded as "acting white".

You also forget years of slavery breaking up families led to a culture that values less two parent couples and all the good having both figures in a childs life does.

Or even the liberal democrat decimating the black community by making sure it's dependent on thier handouts by playing into the dependent lifestyle with always promises of "more".

this fact sheet from the NAACP shows beyond any doubt that race alone plays a significant role in the criminal justice system

Criminal Justice Fact Sheet | NAACP

As far as your other points - I agree 100% with you that glorification of the thug lifestyle is terrible and must stop as it hurts black kids and handicaps them in American life.

I agree with your point that branding certain behaviors as "acting white" must also stop as it hurts black kids and handicaps them in American life.

I agree with you that slavery and the break up of the black family established a pattern that hurts black families today.

I even agree with you that an over reliance on welfare for too long a time has also hurt black families handicapping some in American life today. Sadly, welfare and handouts was looked at by some as cheaper than actual rehabilitation and job training so it was viewed by some on both sides of the aisle as the easier or at least the cheaper alternative in the short run.

Welcome back Rev. :2wave: I missed some of the knock down drag outs from the past.

You do not have the "right" to force whatever speech you wish on your employer. They hired you to work, during working hours, they can tell you to shut up as a condition of employment. If that is unacceptable to you, you are free to quit.

I have to disagree with you here: what if five or six charcters at Disney Land decided to walk through the park with their hands up? The NFL is politlcally neutral and they should go out of their way to protect that status. It opens up a very ugly can of worms of they don't.

Apples and lug nuts. If these players had disrupted the game by walking around protesting it would be one thing. What they did was nothing of the sort.

Wonder what those players position is on domestic violence and child abuse. I don't recall them making any jester about those incidents that involve NFL players.

What about "Pants UP ; Don't Loot"?

I'm being very serious. The NFL needs to squash that right now.

I'll make a guess that your prediction is accurate and there will be fines and/or suspensions handed down. The NFL has to stick to football and avoid any and all political statements. It could become a free for all if it doesn't.

I'd love to see players come out in protest of puppy mills but I also understand that they simply can't. They're there to play football and not play politics.

I need more than the NAACP.

That said, I agree, cops tend to look at black people differently, including other black cops. Why?

So given these items, return to your first. If the justice system is stacked against african americans, how does this all play into it?

Thanks.

And as usual, we can't have any discussion about race without someone claiming that white people are oppressed....
In fairness, how can you have a discussion on race without addressing the very real double standards which exist for every race? Double standards exist to benefit (and burden) every race in America. It's only fair to air the grievances of ALL races if you want an honest discussion on race.

You do not have the "right" to force whatever speech you wish on your employer. They hired you to work, during working hours, they can tell you to shut up as a condition of employment. If that is unacceptable to you, you are free to quit.

And did they do that in this case?
