They have "even better sales" on Thanksgiving Day now. It started with Walmart. To stop the fighting in the aisles, they started giving tickets to buy items but you had to come into the store before the sale officially started, get your item tickets, and stand in line until whatever appointed hour at midnight and thereafter the item was officially sold. If you went at midnight when the sale starts, all the items are already claimed as people would come as groups (Person 1goes to the TV line; Person 2 to the computer line; person 3 to the appliances line, etc.) It is kind of sad to see people lined up 6 hours ahead of time to get a TV for $75 off. Now they just announce that they open at whatever hour on Thursday because people were getting irate that they did not know the doors opend 6 hours before the sale. I think last year JC Penny elected not to open until Thursday daylight because they knew everybody would be at Walmart anyway.

That's depressing. I'm actually in New Hampshire this week visiting my wife's family for Thanksgiving, always been a fan as its a genuinely nice day with good food, family and no forced gift exchange. Shame that the sales seem to be taking over it.

I don't know about you, but I would fire someone for going on strike. That's probably why it's illegal. Still, they agreed to work, and by striking they clearly are not. It's not as if I don't have a legitimate reason to fire them.

The sad part to me is that these are the same people who then complain about wages when they will line up for a $100 Mexican-made TV and not in line to support US goods or jobs. I do not shop Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday of Thanksgiving week unless it is groceries/household stuff. Isn't worth it to me. I wouldn't stand in line 6-8 hours if they were giving you $100 to take them off their hands.

I think they something when I was last over called "small business Saturday" which I thought was a nice counter. It's getting to be the same in the UK now people stopped having milk delivered, local corner shop is dying out as are small butchers etc. Walmart bought out our main supermarket "Asda" and everyone seems to flock to the big name shops.

For most people who are forced to work on Thanksgiving it probably is way better. I don't mind him being off on Thanksgiving for free.

That is probably the idea they are going for.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

    Cicero Marcus Tullius
