CARSON CITY, Nev. (KRNV & mynews4.com)-- Incoming Nevada House Speaker Ira Hansen, R-Sparks, announced today that he has decided to withdraw from the post. Hansen sent an email early this morning to his colleagues in the Republican caucus announcing his plans to withdraw.
After being chosen to be Speaker of the Nevada House, whackjob Ira Hansen has stepped down. And most the credit goes to Republican Governor Brian Sandoval, who pressured Hansen to quit, due to his support for Pat McCarran, whose stance against the immigration of German Jews led to the immigration to Adolph Hitler's gas chambers for many of them. In addition Hansen's comments over the years, in his newspaper columns and radio show, demonstrated a certain amount of racism, misogyny, hatred towards gays, support of the Confederate States of America and it's flag, and even support for Nevada seceding from the United States.

Well done, Governor. You probably made some enemies this week, but you gained many more friends. The Republican Party needs more like you and fewer traitorous assholes like Ira Hansen.

Good on the governor. It takes integrity and some cajones to clean your own house like that.

This is good. Ira Hansen is a moron. The reason why there' wasn't as much protest is because as a representative of his own little area, people who oppose his views don't have to deal with him. If he becomes speaker then his ignorant views become a reflection on all Republicans in the state and therefore there is much protest. Glad the governor stepped in to put a help stop this.

It does kinda show that at the end of the day and even in the GOP, common sense can and does prevail. But that's not always the case and it's disturbing how close to power some of these crazy extremists are getting.

There are a lot of good people in the GOP.

Unfortunately sometimes they let others make most of the noise.

Like religion. The noisiest ones are generally the assholes.
