With respect to the notion that I can just suspend deportations through executive order, that’s just not the case, because there are laws on the books that Congress has passed — and I know that everybody here at Bell is studying hard so you know that we’ve got three branches of government. Congress passes the law. The executive branch’s job is to enforce and implement those laws. And then the judiciary has to interpret the laws.

There are enough laws on the books by Congress that are very clear in terms of how we have to enforce our immigration system that for me to simply through executive order ignore those congressional mandates would not conform with my appropriate role as President....
Or, if you don't like the Washington Post (above), there is that famous right-wing rag, the New York Times:

....WASHINGTON — President Obama is poised to ignore stark warnings that executive action on immigration would amount to “violating our laws” and would be “very difficult to defend legally.”

Those warnings came not from Republican lawmakers but from Mr. Obama himself....
Here's the video: Obama: Halting Deportations "Not An Option," Would Be "Ignoring The Law"

Or, there's that ring wing television network..... ABC. Or Google Hangout

Jacky Guerrero of California: Your administration has deported a record high number of 1.5 million undocumented immigrants, more than your predecessor. And I know your administration took some steps last year to protect unintended undocumented immigrants from being deported. However many people say that those efforts weren’t enough. What I’d like to know is what you’re going to do now until the time immigration reform is passed, to insure that more people aren’t being deported and families aren’t being broken apart.

Obama: Well, look Jacky, this is something that I’ve struggled with throughout my presidency. The problem is that, you know, I’m the president of the United States. I’m not the emperor of the United States. My job is to execute laws that are passed, and Congress right now has not changed what I consider to be a broken immigration system.

And what that means is is that we have certain obligations to enforce the laws that are in place, even if we think that in many cases the results may be tragic...

No, but it doesn't make those EO's matter to anything either. Who ever told you that anyone thought this crap was legal no matter which president did it?

You might also want to realize that what people thought about Amnesty in 1986 has absolutely nothing to do with what people think of it today. People get older, they have children, those children become voters with different views. You know, time moves forward. It's not 1950 anymore.

Not anymore. Any idea that the President can be trusted to enforce the law once it is passed instead of doing whatever the F he wants to is dead now. POTUS just wrecked any possibility of bipartisan immigration reform.

The point wasn't whether it was legal or illegal. The point was Congress will have a hard time proving what has been done for 50+ years is illegal.

Just that if Sharpton was saying that ****, he's be listened too. Because last night Obama took for granted the black vote. How many blacks are going to get legal status from his EO? Zero, but he already has them in his pocket doesn't he, whether he ****s them out future jobs or not.

Ultimately what this comes down to is the fact that Obama has slightly reduced the amount of power that white Americans hold over brown people. And that terrifies many of them. Rattles them to their core. The frothy, borderline-lunatic responses we have seen, including some right here on DP, are strong evidence of that.

But go ahead, conservative whites. Go ahead and see what your blatant racism does to the votes of the fastest growing minority in America. At the rate you're going, you'll be lucky to win Georgia's electoral votes by the year 2020.

So that is going to be Obama's out? That other people did it and got away with it? I guess he really is five years old.

So basically the other presidents got away it with Grandpa in charge, so the president thinks he can get away with it with daddy in charge. Sorry, daddy is not Grandpa.

Are you engaging in race baiting out of desperation? I'm shocked, I tells ya.
