Anonymous seizes Ku Klux Klan Twitter account over Ferguson threats [W:42]

Re: Anonymous seizes Ku Klux Klan Twitter account over Ferguson threats

want to expose a group and what it stands for. go for it. please!

want to silence their means of expressing that with which you disagree. should not happen. free speech should not be squelched. no matter how reprehensible the matter they choose to express

How are they silencing the KKK? It isn't as if they can't just create another Twitter account.

Re: Anonymous seizes Ku Klux Klan Twitter account over Ferguson threats

How are they silencing the KKK? It isn't as if they can't just create another Twitter account.

but their established recognized KKK is no longer theirs
their brand was co-opted

not unlike me seizing your debate politics account and making posts appearing to be attributable to you

I guess that would be determined by how the express their stupidity.

but as apstd has already noted, who is deemed the arbiter to justify whether their expressions were post-worthy ... and what credentials does that person possess to be placed in that unilateral position ... and then, who had the authority to charge that party with the responsibility to evaluate reasonableness of expression

Re: Anonymous seizes Ku Klux Klan Twitter account over Ferguson threats

So let me get this straight....

The hacker group Anonymous is hacking the KKK's website and twitter account because the KKK is threatening violence in Ferguson....except that it's really just some kid who guessed a password to a KKK account and not Anonymous...and the KKK account is really a fake website set up by Anonymous.....???

Am I close? lol

Yup, quite straight forward

In a noneuclidian universe...

Anyone who belongs to any group which promotes the hatred of any race, religion or ethnic group isn't just minding their own business.

That should be obvious to anyone with an IQ above room temperature.

The first amendment isn't about protecting speech you like.

Re: Anonymous seizes Ku Klux Klan Twitter account over Ferguson threats

Who doesn't know that?

I don't believe that's a secret in the USA.

Apparently a lot don't, see post on here all the time suggesting the limiting of free speech, not to mention other "rights".

True, it's not a secret, if it was and accidentally leaked, the the left might actually know it.

Uh, where did posts come into it at?

As long as it is not in a violent manor, everyone is allowed to express their opinions, whether others approve or not. Violence is also allowed, if you win the war.

Reactions to free speech can be pretty cleanly divided into two categories:

What the government does: we have heavy restrictions here based on the first amendment and for very good practical reasons.

What society does: which there are very few restrictions and rightly so.

What this means is if the government is suppressing speech, it's probably going to be unconstitutional and illegal. I think pretty much everyone agrees with this.

If society reacts negatively, then in my view it's not necessarily a suppression of speech. For example if bob has a radio show and comes up with an opinion that enough people dislike and bobs funding ends up getting pulled as a result, it's not suppression as bob does not have a right to his platform in the first place. Bobs radio show is nice but he has no right to it, so by it being taken away he has lost no rights. He is still just as able to express his opinion as his mouth still functions.

Now others view a negative societal reaction as a suppression of free speech. Honestly I am still trying to figure out why some would feel that way.

Re: Anonymous seizes Ku Klux Klan Twitter account over Ferguson threats

Frank Ancona , what kind of name is that ?

Ancona isn't an American surname. It's sounds more like a Kenyan surname.

It's obvious that the Klan is lowering their recruiting standards.

Maybe it's social engineering ?

Generally, any speech that I don't like, I just ignore.

The 1st Amendment guarantees free speech, it doesn't guarantee that anyone will be listening.

Yeah, which is obviously why you felt the need to post about it, because you ignore it...:lamo

I replied to your comment about free speech and that's it.

My comment? You sure?

In this world where quantum mechanics and an infinite number of possible universes make anything possible? No.

It could have been someone posing as you on this website.

Free speech is a civil right. A citizen can violate my civil rights just like the government can.

Re: Anonymous seizes Ku Klux Klan Twitter account over Ferguson threats

Free speech is a civil right. A citizen can violate my civil rights just like the government can.

And if someone tapes your mouth shut that civil right is violated

Re: Anonymous seizes Ku Klux Klan Twitter account over Ferguson threats

And if someone tapes your mouth shut that civil right is violated

If someone use unlawful means to suppress your freedom of speech--like hacking your twitter account--that's a civil rights violation, as well.

Re: Anonymous seizes Ku Klux Klan Twitter account over Ferguson threats

And as pointed out they didn't do anything to the KKK, as it wasn't the KKK's site and it wasn't anonymous. Duh!

Why are you lying for the kkk

Re: Anonymous seizes Ku Klux Klan Twitter account over Ferguson threats

Why are you lying for the kkk
Holy ****!
The real question is; Why are you telling untruths?

Or did you not understand these previous two posts?

The KKK account didn't belong to the KKK. I will try to find that info.

And a guy in Pakistan is behind the supposed Anonymous "OpFerguson" account.

Well that didn't take that long.

I read it from the so-called anonymous assholes on the other account they took over.

Re: Anonymous seizes Ku Klux Klan Twitter account over Ferguson threats

So...a group calling itself Anonymous attacked the KKK, by taking away it's member's anonymity.

Irony?

This isn't free speech. This is a terrorist group that has murdered many, frequently escaping justice, and has now made violent threats, probably a crime itself. Forget ISIS. Down with the KKK!
