US hostage Kassig 'killed by IS'

No, the "problems" existed before, during and after our troops entered/left the picture. Just as the war on drugs is endless so too is the war on terror. Attempts at controlling the supply are not likely to work so long as demand persists. Much of the escalation of violence is caused by those outside the region putting arms into the region, mainly for personal profit. Note how many US supplied arms are now in the hands of ISIS fighters. We give them to "friends" in the region who, in turn, either sell them to the "enemy" or abandon them when someone spooks them (or their family). There are very, very few loyal Iraqis and there are many, many in Iraq that have strong "tribal" ties. Trying to pretend that Iraq is ready for any form of unified "coalition" leadership is the root cause of our failure to try to force that to happen.

Be real, ISIS has come to power because Obama left Iraq wide open, ripe for the picking. This is on Obama, his staff told him this would happen, and it did.

Nonsense. Honestly, turn down right wing radio.

Break it down for me, what of any of my 3 assertions was nonsense-and how.

I will break them down for you, to facilitate your reply...

-Life is cheap under ISIS

-Obama has allowed ISIS to flourish.

-These attacks will continue until our weak President decides to get serious.

Well...on the plus side, the GOP will now control the House and Senate so surely they can vote to declare war.
That war was lost in 2011 when Obama retreated and there is no going back. Islamists have gained remarkably since Obama's retreat and they will continue to make gains on several fronts. Here's another more benign, yet effective, method. If it was Christianity being taught in the school perhaps a bigger fuss might have been made. http://www.barenakedislam.com/2014/...for-proselytizing-for-islam-in-the-classroom/

Using a new label du jour for those bad guys wanting to establish a caliphate changes nothing. Iraq is wide open because Iraq is no longer under the thumb of a powerful dictator with a strong security force. Our acting as that strong security force "works" only so long as we keep doing so. There is no exit strategy for Iraq, just as there is none for Afghanistan - Vietnamization does not work.

Speaking of recent history, certainly bombing them ain't the answer.
This is is a job for the Army supported by the Air Force. Before that happens we need to determine what is in this nation's interest.

We can stop our attack on Americans in this country by shutting down the Soviet-style EPA. We can increase our energy production here so we have less need to be involved in the Middle East. We can protect our electric grid from ground attack.

And we can choose to leave Americans who have been captured by terrorist organizations to be tortured and beheaded.

It is up to us.

ISIS isn't a country, it's a terrorist group that didn't exist before G.W. Bush invaded Iraq.

Please don't let those pesky facts ruin a perfectly good delusion.

And didn't exist in any meaningful way when the troops were in Iraq. They only took hold and gained territory after Obama pulled the troops in 2011.

"Exit Strategy" is a recent term coined by those determined to lose and retreat. It is the enemy who should be considering an exit strategy, not the winners.

It worked like a arm during WW2. We attacked the **** out of Facism. How much are the facists laughing, now?

We had the jihadists on the run, until we broke off the attack.
The fascists, along with every other form of authoritarian statist (national socialists, international socialists, liberals, progressives) are in charge. Have you noticed the Environmental Protection Agency? It has a Soviet-style de-industrialization plan for the US. It is fascist. Have you seen the magnitude and depth of the US regulatory environment. It is fascist.

The One on the golf course and his crony capitalist buddies are laughing at us and their stupid followers.

That sounds so wonderful but how, exactly, does one win by propping up a corrupt regime that is the target of the enemy? We won, militarily, in Vietnam yet what did we win, other than the need to stay forever?

Under Obama its grown to a defacto state, complete with its own govt structure, education and healthcare system and territory.

OK, can we actually attack Iraq (as a nation under its new flag) now? ;)

You mentioned the EPA but even most of those you name wouldn't laugh if they had a clue as to what's going on. Power Plant Closures - IER

What 'propping up' are you referring to?

There are still no lessons learned from Vietnam.

Training and arming foreign forces not under our command/control in a civil war. The stated missions in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan. The problem with entering into someone's civil war is that you must pick the side that can be trusted to have a chance to win in the end or help to wipe them both out.

So you are talking about ISIS in Iraq now and not in 2100. I wasn't sure what 'corrupt regime you were referring to because, in the ME, there is no other kind.

Islamism is a great deal more than 'a civil war'. Just this thread should alert everyone to that.
