Finally something to like about Stephen Harper...

Harper tells Putin to 'get out of Ukraine' in G20 encounter - The Globe and Mail

Putin comes up to him with his hand out. Harper shakes his hand but says, "I guess I'll shake your hand but I have only one thing to say to you, you need to get out of Ukraine."‎
"A spokesman for the Canadian Prime Minister relayed the details of the encounter and, according to director of communications Jason MacDonald, "Mr. Putin did not respond positively."

Good on Harper. No tip-toeing around the subject.

One reason to like Canadians is that they don't beat about the bush.

Awesome!

I do not support Harper as a Canadian voter, but have in the past, in fact have voted Reform and Conservative since 1992.

But my kudos to him, he has the biggest balls on any Prime Minister since Trudeau and his dealings with Nixon.

What I see, is Canada the ONLY NATO country really standing up for the Ukrainian people, I cannot see Obama doing this.

Mr. Prime Minister, your email in box is going to be very full with congratulations and mine will be one of them.

And I propose this, offer Putin a deal, one seven game series between Canada's best and Russia's best women hockey players, International rules. He loses, he leaves Ukraine.

I guess... this is nice... but what actions are behind it? Canada won't stop selling its goods to Russia. Canada's sanctions, if they can be called that have been restricted to a few people on a list that can't have dealings with Canada or Canadians. Tough talk is great, but it should carry some relevant actions. When is Canada going to freeze Russian assets or close its market to Russia? When is it going to help fund the Ukranian army like the US does? No? Okay then, tough talk is all Harper has.

While I agree with Harper, you have to admit moments after the "talking to" Putin probably went aside and laughed himself silly.

Yep, that's exactly what I thought. It's great to pull out the tough Alberta talk when you don't really have anything at stake. Canada is still taking Russia's money and they're encouraging the very economic relations which make funding aggressive actions possible.

What a surprise, that the Canadian government would join the US on any given issue.....

For what? Oil?

Why? Does he feel immune to international opinion or is it contempt for Harper and Canada?
If he did he was laughing at the rest of the 'leaders' who smiled and nodded when they met him face-to-face and bad-mouthed his policies to the reporters. Buncha gutless ******s.

Don't get all sensitive because we are talking about Canada, odds are Putin has had plenty of laughter at whatever comes out of Obama's mouth as well.

Simply put Putin is probably laughing because he seems to get away with far more than he does not. You can claim international pressure, or fear of Canada and Harper, or worry about "international opinion", or whatever else all you would like. But the reality is Putin is doing what he wants to.

Prove me wrong...

I'm not talking about nations. I'm talking about men, face to face. If the guy down the street punches his wife but is still invited to the block party and the only one who calls him on it is the smallest guy at the party, what does that say about the rest?

Please become current. Canada has sanctioned various goods not covered by treaty the closest you can get to a trade war. Canada's sovereignty in the north is being challenged almost daily.

Canada has also been sanctioned by Russia costing us jobs.

What has Obama done?

Better... ?!?

Fallen.

man, so much anti-Canadianism...

Hate us, it's free. But, the next time you have to shut down your air space don't come looking for a safe place to land. Based on your posts and the hostility we will be happy to let the planes drop into the ocean.

Nice ****ing neighbors.....

WTF?!?

Guys ... you really need to relax a bit more, and understand that posting a meme isn't "hostility".
It's just me making fun of the level of schizophrenia and butthurt in the world these days.

Apparently he didn't enjoy the pariah-spotlight. Putin left the G20 summit early.

Putin is a much better chess player than Obama or Harper. ;)

The analogy does not work. Too many nations have already expressed to Putin in one way or another to get out of Ukraine. I hate to burst your bubble but Canada and Harper did nothing unique here.

I doubt ole Harper was the reason. Putin had a few run-ins over the course of the summit.
