Vladimir Putin is underlining his presence at a major summit of world leaders in Australia by stationing warships in waters off the country's northeastern coast, prompting the Australian prime minister to angrily accuse Russia of trying to reclaim the "lost glories" of the Soviet Union. In recent days, four Russian warships have entered international waters off the northeast Australian coast to coincide with Putin's visit to Australia for the summit that brings together the leaders of the world's 20 biggest industrialized and developing economies. Australia, in turn, sent three warships of its own to monitor them.

Obama out showed Putin when the Obama's went on their African vacation with a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier and an entire carrier air wing with FA-18 Super Hornets. That's class.

Obama should use the same hospital that G.W. Bush or Bill Clinton would have used when they visited Africa without a freaking aircraft carrier, a carrier air wing, 56 vehicles, and over a hundred Secret Service agents looking for prostitutes.

Come on, we are talking about Obama, the the worst President in the past hundred years.

But the Ruskies have submarines that our Navy can't find. And our carriers are scared of the Ruskies Slava class cruisers.

Nato made a mistake, when it did not sink his fleet in Georgia, when it would have been safe. Putin learned and is upping the ante.

I believe that if WWIII ever happens we'll kill more Russkis than they'll kill Americans.

Lets wait and see how it turns out.

Kruschchev backed down over Cuba, that should tell you something.

The USA was prepared to obliterate the USSR.

I was 5 k's from the Czech border ready to go to war at that time.

I remember it like it was yesterday.

Y'know, I can't find any information about the cost of Bush's visit, or details about how Clinton traveled (although his cost 48,000,000 in 1998, which is 61,000,000 in today's dollars). It seems the press was more interested in the actual diplomacy than what they were taking with them when they travel.

If the USA can station troops,ships and planes all over this planet (And it does.), I guess that Russia can send a few ships to international waters off Australia, eh?

Who's going to stop them?

There is no winner in a nuclear holocaust. MAD or mutually assured destruction was the name used to describe our defense/offense posture during the Cold War. Nothing has changed.

Every Navy is ridiculously vulnerable. A large ship Navy is a overpriced dinosaur like the Calvary was 100 years ago.

Let's see....a few days ago the Chinese unveiled a new fighter to compete with the F-35...

Now Putin shows off his Navy to the assembled, including NATO countries.

You think they are saying something about the "leader of the free world"? Would either have done either under Reagan, Clinton or Bush?

BTW, what the Chinese did was a deliberate insult, it was the diplomatic equivalent of slapping your wife in public.

Usually I don't leap on stuff like that, it really is old news.

However I offer this.....in Russia they are talking about their president and how tough he is, either for or against.

Here, the first Observation is about Obama's vacations.....not how decisive and tough he is, there to make the right decisions based on intelligence, but learning about it from TV.

That may be your problem, you remember it as if it were yesterday.

For twenty years it was kept secret that Kruschchev demanded that JFK remove NATO missiles from Turkey in exchange for the Soviet Union to remove it's missiles from Cuba. JFK blinked and removed the NATO missiles from Turkey.

The big difference between the USA today and Russia, Russia has 50 million men of military age who are willing to pick up arms and fight for mother Russia. Today in America our younger generation have already been indoctrinated in school that nationalism is evil and the U.S. military has to offer cash bonuses and lower the standards just to come up with enough soldiers to fight two small low intensity wars.

40% of the Navy's ships aren't "mission capable." That means they can't put to sea and fight.
1/2 of the Marine Corps isn't combat capable do to the lack of equipment and training. Instead of being on the range training for war they are sitting in PC classrooms attending mandatory sensitivity classes. It's called social engineering.

The Army is in worse shape, last year only three combat brigades out of thirty three brigades were rated combat ready able to deploy.

Do we want to touch on the Air Force ? :lamo

This is sheer hyperbole. The total Russian male population is 66 million.
 
The US military has to offer cash bonuses because they are fighting wars under fraud.

And everybody knows it, as Tomas Young told Bush & Cheney in his final letter to them.
