There are simply no words for this level of stupidity.

Harlem Rep. Charles Rangel meant no disrespect when he previously called Tea Party members “white crackers” — he says it was actually a compliment.

The longtime Capitol Hill Democrat said Monday that he thought cracker “was a term of endearment” and was puzzled by the firestorm that his use of the term in a 2013 interview set off.

In a chat with the Huffington Post on Monday, Rangel offered a half-hearted apology for using the word when comparing the Tea Party to Jim Crow segregationists.

Awesome. Stupid and a crook. What a combination! And he won re-election by a landslide.

Hes not stupid, like every good liberal, he just thinks the American people are stupid enough to buy his lie. But never fear, there will almost certainly be liberals finding their way to this thread to defend Rangels comments. You are about to learn from them how cracker is often used as a term of endearment and how Rangel actually loves white people and Tea Partiers and isn't a racist. Should be fun.

A WORD is dead
When it is said,
Some say.
I say it just
Begins to live
That day.

For those in the cattle industry in my part of Florida, it IS a term of endearment. It is NOT a slur.

But I know that for many who do not understand the origin of the word, it is used as a slur.

Its not a term of endearment in the Cattle Industry in Texas.

I doubt Charles Rangel is up on Cattle Industry terms anyway.

No, he used it as a derogatory slur against white people in general.

Pardon me while I laugh.

Yes, we all know the Congressman from Harlem has extensive knowledge of terms of endearment in the cattle industry in Florida.

I am no fan of Rangel's, for decades now.

I simply wanted to point out the origin of the word, and any humor induced thereby is fine by me.

LOL Told you.

It doesn't bother me that Charles Rangel is a low life racist.

Does it bother you ?

Does it bother you ?

Not in the least. I've been aware of it for decades.

The origin of the "N" word is from the Latin word "Niger" meaning black. It wasn't considered a pejorative until the 1800s. I highly doubt if someone called him the N word he would chalk it up to the word origin.

But I did laugh, so you accomplished that.

It just appears he is like everyone else who picks and choose what they think is offensive. Best bet for a smart person is to simply refuse to use any slang for a group of people.

This pick and choose has been seen here in DP where many would find cracker offensive but okay with Redskins. Another ploy used by the pick and choose group is to throw in the PC card if there is objection to one of there chosen okay slang words.

A person in congress should know better if not then they don't need to be there.

The bolded parts are so spot on.

The question I have is when are politicians (on BOTH sides of the aisle) going to learn to move their mouths in sync with their brains. It seems they could use some seminars in public speaking.

Personally I find everything offensive, I think we should all just quit talking period.

:lamo Who the hell thinks white cracker is a term of endearment? Stuff like this seems almost too good to be true, like how can someone like that actually be allowed to vote and propose laws that govern our land. I can't stop giggling, just the idea of someone actually trying to explain that as a term of endearment is just too much.

rangel is quite niggardly when it comes to sharing honest explanations about his inappropriate actions

No fan, and yet you manage to find your way to this thread to defend him. Priceless.

Why does anyone still listen to Charles Rangel? He is the textbook definition of prejudice.

The man is fair representation of the liberal left politics. What other political party could embrace racism in such an overt way and continue to get elected? This is the same political party who invites Rev. Al Sharpton to the WH for consultation. :donkeyfla

All these black leaders are racist and that includes Obama and his wife.

" A white mans greed leaves a world in need"

It's a term of respect and honor. Like "Redskin."
