There is debate on the offensive nature of the name of the football team. Some say it is, some say it isn't. It's an old name, and wasn't initially chosen out of disrespect to any group.

Calling a group of people you detest "white crackers", and then feigning ignorance and actually claiming you thought it was a "term of endearment", is just beyond comprehension.

These 2 debates aren't even in the same hemisphere.
Amen. Yet it appears that others want to make it the same argument in order to try an excuse what Rangel did.

Bringing the Redskins into the discussion is an ineffective means of distracting from the senior Congressman making a major mistake, disparaging Americans with a slur, and then trying to double down on everyone's stupidity to try to cover it up.

Smart people ain't buying what Rangel's selling.

Harlem Rep. Charles Rangel meant no disrespect when he previously called Tea Party members “white crackers” — he says it was actually a compliment.

The longtime Capitol Hill Democrat said Monday that he thought cracker “was a term of endearment” and was puzzled by the firestorm that his use of the term in a 2013 interview set off.

In a chat with the Huffington Post on Monday, Rangel offered a half-hearted apology for using the word when comparing the Tea Party to Jim Crow segregationists.

Awesome. Stupid and a crook. What a combination! And he won re-election by a landslide.
He isn't that stupid. He knew damn well that cracker isn't a term of endearment. He said it, with the soul purpous of being offensive.

    I ain't buying what Rangel's selling, but I ain't buying what you're saying either.

If a derogatory slur is wrong, then it's wrong. It doesn't matter if you're Rangel or the NFL.

Chuck Rangel is a goddamn moron. He's a good example of what happens when someone is in a safe district.

It's not up to "the Dems" if Rangel is in jail or not. It's up to the cops and courts.
