Re: Rep. Charles Rangel says he thought cracker was 'a term of endearment'

As I read through this thread I am thinking of two things,
One Why would Rangel be using a term of endearment in regards to the tea party,
and two, whoever told him that was a good word choice is SO fired!

Why don't they have a team honoring the proud tradition of the Asian people - The Chinks? Make the Celtics change their name to the Dirty Subhuman Micks to honor the proud traditions of the Irish. One for the Arabs called the Towelheads...all we have to do is say we're honoring the tradition, and it'll be fine.

Woman at party: Damn, I see plenty of crackers at this party, but where are the niggers?

Second woman: I see your point. Damn, you just can't have a party without niggers!!

Announcer: Niggers, in the snack food aisle, right next to the Crackers. Don't throw a party without 'em.
What bout "Nig Nog" since it's the Holiday season...

Harlem Rep. Charles Rangel meant no disrespect when he previously called Tea Party members “white crackers” — he says it was actually a compliment.

The longtime Capitol Hill Democrat said Monday that he thought cracker “was a term of endearment” and was puzzled by the firestorm that his use of the term in a 2013 interview set off.

In a chat with the Huffington Post on Monday, Rangel offered a half-hearted apology for using the word when comparing the Tea Party to Jim Crow segregationists.

Rangel: Calling Tea Party 'white crackers' was a compliment - NY Daily News

Awesome. Stupid and a crook. What a combination! And he won re-election by a landslide.
I grew up with a AA minor league team in Atlanta called the Atlanta Crackers. Also there was a Negro League team in Atlanta named the Atlanta Black Crackers. I think the term along with redneck are terms the Northeast uses to stereotype us Southern types. Now Redneck since Jeff Foxworthy came along is definitely a term of endearment.

But since the Braves moved in from Milwaukee, I do not think I heard the term cracker used hardly at all. Expcept maybe on one of these political sites.

But back in the day, I was one of the biggest Atlanta Cracker fans around.
This Reform Party member thinks it is high past time that we start electing Americans to congress and the presidency who put America first and their political party further down the line. But for way too long we have been electing Republicans and Democrats who happen to be Americans instead of Americans who happen to be Republicans and Democrats.

I said that bolded part in an earlier post. Is anyone stupid enough to believe old Charlie would be using a "term of endearment" for the Tea Party? Seriously?

Political Correctness is an invented phenomenon to distract voters from actually expecting politicians to do anything they said they'd do.

And the context of what you suggest here is changing the name in order to prove a racist charge, this would prove nothing because the context still isn't the same. But I can tell you right now that if a team had the name "crackers" for as long as the Redskins team has had their team name and with the honor that they have, I'd have no problem with the team named such. Why? Because context is everything.
