Obama expected to nominate Loretta Lynch to be attorney general: CNN

    Has this been posted yet?

    Who is she?

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama is expected to pick Brooklyn prosecutor Loretta Lynch for his next attorney general, CNN reported on Friday, a move that would give the top U.S. law enforcement role to a low-key prosecutor with deep experience in both civil rights and corporate fraud cases.

Lynch, 55, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, would be the first African-American woman to hold the job if nominated by Obama and confirmed by the Senate.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Obama had yet to decide on his nominee. Asked about reports that a decision could come soon, he said he had no specific details on timing but that no announcement was planned on Friday.

Get ready for a firestorm from the right wing congress. Or maybe they'll let this one slide so it won't be so obvious that they still will not work with the president.

Do you suppose that Obama will wait for the new "right wing" Senate to be seated or perhaps let the "left wing" lame duck Senate handle this suddenly urgent matter?

So who is she? What are her credentials? Why is she the best person for this job?

The "right wing congress" isn't the subject of this thread.

Why? If she is qualified, why shouldn't she be confirmed? Perhaps, just may be, we could move forward if both sides would quit acting all huffy and stopped grandstanding and assuming and falsely accusing.
It seems that, just like Obama is sharpening his executive pen, assuming that a mostly republican Congress can't come up with anything positive for America, many on the left are sharpening their tongues in defense of something that is mere anticipation.

Does anyone else besides me know that the AG is conformed by the Senate? And that when Harry Reid changed the rules in 2013 it meant they only need a simple majority in the votes, and the GOP can't filibuster? All Reid has to do is push through the confirmation process.

She makes some scary (yet purposefully vague?) statements.

At the same event, Lynch gave a measured response to a question about the New York Police Department’s “Stop and Frisk” policy.

“I think it can be used and it can be misused. It’s a tool, just like anything else. It depends on who’s using it,” she said. “I think there’s a tendency in law enforcement that when something works, to put all the resources behind it. Sometimes there’s a lot of thought, and sometimes there’s not.”
That is a scary statement; it is not who is selected (or how?) to be stopped and frisked that matters here folks, but who is doing the stopping and frisking that counts. Hmm...
