Re: Meet Mia Love. You’ll be seeing a lot more of the Republicans’ first black congre

Seems like this thread is doing a lot of celebrating of her color and the fact Republicans voted in someone of her color. I guess race only matters if you can spin it positively?
It IS good. Love offers a different perspective. Now that she's elected, the Republican party will be forced to come to terms with differing perspectives.

I agree...it's a great thing. Tim Scott and her are just a start though to actually make an impact in Republican politics. There seems to be a lot of spiking the football while it's only the first drive....

Re: Meet Mia Love. You’ll be seeing a lot more of the Republicans’ first black congre

For at least half a century, the party of Lincoln has battled charges that it is racist, sexist and anti-immigrant.

Today, voters from a conservative state made those arguments a little bit harder to make. In Utah, Mia Love became the first black Republican woman — and first Haitian American — elected to Congress.

For the GOP — a house divided that faces significant demographic hurdles to winning the White House in 2016 even as it celebrates President Obama’s shellacking — this was huge. A party threatened with electoral extinction among African Americans and immigrants now has someone to brag about in Washington. In a wave election less about fresh Republican ideas than fervid disapproval of all things presidential, Love’s compelling personal story is an oasis. She’s not just a black face in what’s often described as a party full of angry old white men. She’s a path forward.

Good for her. I've followed her for a while now. The daughter of Haitian immigrants.

So much for all Republicans being racist and sexist.

Congratulations to Mia Love. Good for her!

Congratulations to Mia Love. Good for her!

I hope they don't expect too much from her too quickly. She still needs time to learn and grow.

Re: Meet Mia Love. You’ll be seeing a lot more of the Republicans’ first black congre

Last I checked this thread put her race and gender front and center

Blame Yahoo for that. It's their article.

And of course we all know that no other politicians' race and gender has ever been the topic of a news article or mentioned by anyone, right?

Re: Meet Mia Love. You’ll be seeing a lot more of the Republicans’ first black congre

The (R) stands for "Radiant" and "Ravishing"...

After losing in 2012, I'm glad she stuck with it... She will make a fine edition to the US Congress.

I'm glad she did too Grim! I first saw her in 2012 and was really impressed. She is a really neat woman.

I'm not blaming anyone..I'm pointing out to a poster that this thread is about the woman's race and gender....

I started this thread.

Re: Meet Mia Love. You’ll be seeing a lot more of the Republicans’ first black congre

Perhaps Democrats will be forced to move on from their charges of "racism" and "sexism" as an election strategy and deal more with economic issues or foreign affairs. The questions is whether they have anything else.

I don't think they will move on from it any time soon. That's one of their major powerplays, to play on ignorance of the voting populace.

Re: Meet Mia Love. You’ll be seeing a lot more of the Republicans’ first black congre

You did...and spoke about race in the original post...

The OP was a Yahoo article noting that she is the first black female GOP Congressional rep. You seem surprised that we're talking about her race and sex in the posts. It's what the purpose of the article was all about.

Re: Meet Mia Love. You’ll be seeing a lot more of the Republicans’ first black congre

The word "BLACK' is only allowed to be nonracist if mentioned for a
Conservative Republican such as Justice Thomas, Congresswoman Love and Senator Scott .

Re: Meet Mia Love. You’ll be seeing a lot more of the Republicans’ first black congre

Even on this website, there are republican posters that I wouldn't agree with as far as policy, but they treat me with respect and that respect is giving back. Ask guys like Canada John. That awesome that you and other republicans like yourself supports Love and I hope that it continues.

My experience is that my friends who are black, tend to be much more conservative than I, but they still vote for democrats, and it's most likely due to their being told, perhaps not literally, but by example, that they are expected to mark D at the ballot box. There are whites who have been, and to a certain extent, still are that way, because they were raised in the south, where being democrat used to be a given. My father-in-law (who is no longer living) used to tell me about how his dad told him he had to vote democrat, because "you were born a democrat". THat is the kind of crap many people have been exposed to, and it's hard to break the mold that you are expected to conform to.

Minorities are often socially conservative. I figure this is due to a lower incidence of multi-generational education.

For myself, and especially for racial minorities, racism is a major issue. I cannot imagine living under systemic privilege, so they must be far more aware of it than I. People rarely have problems with voters interested in some issues more than others. It only takes a tiny bit of education, understanding and empathy, to see how racism could be a pretty big issue for those ****ed by it. I've never heard of a liberal racist organization. The GOP seriously needs to improve their image therein.

Besides being young, black, female, Mormon and mayor of a housing development in the middle of arguably the most conservative, white state in the union....what is so special about Mia Love?

i think its goes to the idea of democrats believing that no such person would ever be part of the republican party.....is probability it.

i guess they were wrong in their assessment of things

Yes, righties voting for a black republican proves they're not racist. Righties not voting for a black dem is of no significance

Yess, blame it on Yahoo. Mentioning race and gender is divisive

Except when you do it. Then it's "Yahoo made me do it"

Yes, blacks don't vote dem because they prefer the dems to repubs. They do it because they're expected to or because someone else told them to.

As long as the repubs explain the black vote using language that portrays them as stupid and irresponsible, the black vote will continue to go dem

A black female LDS right wing activist seems more like a rare novelty than the norm.

Re: Meet Mia Love. You’ll be seeing a lot more of the Republicans’ first black congre

Wasn't that cool? I saw the beautiful look on her face when it was a sure deal. I loved it!

I am hoping that we will eventually be able to destroy the image that Republicans hate minorities and women. Those are two of the biggest lies of my lifetime, and it just pisses me off that dems have been able to use those lies for their own gains for decades.

Don't hold your breath. Remember that highest public office ever afforded to a black woman was Sec. State Condi Rice. If you were to listen to most liberals on Rep. racism/sexism, you would think that she never existed.

i have been in politics for decades, i know what the democrats think of blacks who are part of the republican party.

She'll be very lonely if she starts a Republican Black Caucus.....

Any caucus based on race is by definition racist. Hmmm.... Now which side of the aisle has a caucus based on race???
