Charley Rangel was reelected yesterday and actually said Republicans want slavery to return. Barely a flinch from the media.

Wasn't that cool? I saw the beautiful look on her face when it was a sure deal. I loved it!

I am hoping that we will eventually be able to destroy the image that Republicans hate minorities and women. Those are two of the biggest lies of my lifetime, and it just pisses me off that dems have been able to use those lies for their own gains for decades.

It's a bad thing to pigeonhole African Americans into a political viewpoint, but unfortunately, many conservatives do not help matters by perceiving African Americans in many unflattering ways. I dislike both the Uncle Tom moniker placed on African American conservatives as I do the welfare queen/thug rhetoric given by conservatives.

You did...and spoke about race in the original post...

But, Mia Love is black. Is race suddenly off limits, now? :lamo

Are you equating a black congresswoman to someone who collects welfare? If so, you need to get it in check!

I don't know if anyone has posted this, but she did an interview with CNN today:

Re-read my post and think a little more carefully, if you can help it. I know that may be a problem, but humor me.

Anyone who misjudges an entire group of people based on the actions of a few members of that group is a racist and/or bigot.

For at least half a century, the party of Lincoln has battled charges that it is racist, sexist and anti-immigrant.

Today, voters from a conservative state made those arguments a little bit harder to make. In Utah, Mia Love became the first black Republican woman — and first Haitian American — elected to Congress.

For the GOP — a house divided that faces significant demographic hurdles to winning the White House in 2016 even as it celebrates President Obama’s shellacking — this was huge. A party threatened with electoral extinction among African Americans and immigrants now has someone to brag about in Washington. In a wave election less about fresh Republican ideas than fervid disapproval of all things presidential, Love’s compelling personal story is an oasis. She’s not just a black face in what’s often described as a party full of angry old white men. She’s a path forward.

Good for her. I've followed her for a while now. The daughter of Haitian immigrants.

So much for all Republicans being racist and sexist.

Some of the old white men in the GOP are racist and sexist homophobes-but not all of them.

The same could be said for your left wing friends.

Re: Meet Mia Love. You’ll be seeing a lot more of the Republicans’ first black congre

So can we call the left wing narratives of the GOPs " war on women " and the party that hates black people over and done with ?

Depends, will you still call Democrats racist after they elected the first black president? ;) Doubt it.

The same could be said of a lot of people on this planet, and I've said it.

Those who ignore racism are doing nothing to speed up its demise.

Re: Meet Mia Love. You’ll be seeing a lot more of the Republicans’ first black congre

This just in!

MILLIONS of republicans are not racist, nor sexist, support equal rights (SSM) and are Pro-choice
thats nothing new and people should NEVER judge a group by some.

But the problem is sheep still exists, bad media still exists and there are many republicans that are racist, sexist, against equal rights etc and they aren't outed for it. They are very squeaky wheels and tend to get the most attention. They try to make laws and policies also that get attention and not shut down.

just like there are millions of lefties that have guns and support the 2nd people need to wake up to individuals and not focus on groups.

lastly GOOD for Mia Love!!!!

Who cares? I though race didn't matter to the right?

Black Republicans actually being elected to congress is kind of like finding black serial killers. It's possible, just rare. Let them have their moment, then point out they're catching up to Democrats.

Sucks to get pigeon-holed, don't it? How's it feel?

Who cares? You do, or you wouldn't be in this thread.

Anything positive to add about this young woman?

I love when the right refers to black people they approve of with sterile, faux-respectful phrases like "this young woman". Normally, the right just refers to black people as "leeches", "welfare queens", "thugs" and "brainwashed." I guess moving from overt racism to token worship is some kind of progress.

The rarity makes this all the more funny. It's as if they think a single Black Republican elected official answers to the homogeneity of their party/ideology. If anything, it shows how seriously they do take accusations of racism given how important it is for them to trot out their few black members.

Neat thoughts. Thanks for sharing. Mia Love isn't a young woman? That's what most people would call a woman in her early 30s. Which one of those would you call her - a leech, a welfare queen, a thug, or brainwashed?

Not only that but from the immigration aspect as well. Her parents came here on a tourist visa, not as legal immigrants. Then once she was born here, an 'anchor baby' as some love to call it, the family was able to secure their future here. I don't really care myself but it reminds me of someone here who is quite against 'anchor babies', suddenly has no issue with it in this case. Had it been an 'anchor baby' Hispanic democrat I would have loved to see his reaction there.

Anyway, I'm glad for Ms. Love and wish her the best.

I didn't comment on whether or not she was a young women, I commented on your word choice. As far as which racist name I would call her? I wouldn't call her any. I'm not on the right.

Some people just don't get it. If the Republicans didn't actually have a history of having racists undertones then this one congresswoman shouldn't be having this ticker tape parade. The way they are drooling over her is if she had discovered the cure for Ebola. The one accomplishment listed was her persuading developers to spray for flies.

It reminds me of those people who like to point out to you that they do have one black friend. Ok.
I don't think the Republican party today is racist nor do I think the Mormon church is racist. But one cannot deny that the Mormons didn't feel black should hold superior office in its church until 1978.

So continue with the ticker tape parade you finally have that one black friend.

Ah, I get it now. I'm a bad person for calling her a young woman. Neat! What would have been a more appropriate name for her then?

I'm not a racist nor "on the right", so I wouldn't call her a racist name. That seems to disappoint you.

The only thing that is going to change that image is a change in Republican philosophy and actions. Sorry...you may not like it, but the truth is the truth. Republican policies are often anti-minority and anti-women. Have a black face in the form of Mia Love isn't going to change that any more than having a black face in Condoleeza Rice or any other figurehead the GOP wants to throw up.

You know, I agree. It's terrible that people are saying anything good about her.
