Furthermore, deficit spending as a percentage of output has fallen from 11% of GDP to 2.8% of GDP; a drop of roughly 3/4. Since 1959, the average deficit as a % of GDP has been 3.7%; 3.2% if you factor out the past 6 years.

Why focus strictly on place value?
Brookings has different numbers. It appears to me that during the Bush years the worst deficit in terms of % of GDP was -3.4% in FY2004, except for FY2009 when it was -9.8%.

The BEST % of GDP deficit since FY2009 was -4.1% in FY2013 (and possibly -3.7% in FY2014). Those seem like high % figures in non-recession years.

A complete non sequitur, ignoring past policy and the contributions they make to the current debt (the expense to the govt) is simply hiding your head in the sand. Not paying for past spending is simply freeloading. The (GOP) chickens have come home to roost.

Wow, maybe you ought to look at the budget of the United States before making stupid statements. Obama controlled the budget from 2009 to the present and could have put a stop to anything he wanted. You don't seem to understand the concept of responsibility.

Again, how many times do you have to be corrected on everything before you accept your errors? I personally have shown you that the Bush 2009 budget had a very tiny portion of additional spending added by Obama...and as you are so keen to point out, the spending is largely determined by Congress. Again, if you want Congress or Obama to not pay for past GOP spending or want to reverse GOP tax policy (while WHINING ABOUT THE DEBT!), you go right ahead and contradict yourself.

Some liberals never get it nor will they ever? Very small? Stimulus, TARP recycle, Afghanistan supplementals, 6 months of line item budget items? That is your idea of tiny? Then of course there are the shovels that never arrived as promised for those shovel ready jobs that really didn't exist according to Obama.

I used inflation adjusted figures to better compare expenditures and receipts in a somewhat historical context .
It is not very unreasonable that the rich should contribute to the public expense, not only in proportion to their revenue, but something more than in that proportion.

But then it's not as sexy.

That is a left-wing propaganda website!
