Sen. Landrieu's remarks on race anger Republicans[W:466]

Re: Sen. Landrieu's remarks on race anger Republicans

Because it's a Democratic constituency -- the poor -- that would be most negatively affected by them.

That is simply not true. Nobody....rich middle class or poor is disenfranchised by having to show a valid ID card to vote. And do not try the "It's too expensive" argument. ID is free to the poor in most states and in those where it is not.......it cost less then the poor spend in one week on vices such as tobacco products and booze.

Do I have to repeat this ****ing argument again?

I don't care if the ID costs five goddamn cents. If you charge for it, and it's required to vote, then it is a poll tax, period, end of discussion.

Do states not require photo IDs to get welfare anymore?

But I agree with you on the need for a national ID card. We should revamp the Social Security card and green card system into a single ID that was color coded for easy recognition. Make it a requirement for voting, collecting benefits and work authorization screening.

Hell if I know. Not every poor person is on welfare.

Works for me.

and then we have the candid admission by Republican Mike Turzai the leader of the Pennsylvania House in 2012

Pennsylvania state House Republican leader Mike Turzai said this weekend that the state’s new voter ID law will “allow” Mitt Romney to win the state in November, according to a report.
“Pro-Second Amendment? The Castle Doctrine, it’s done. First pro-life legislation – abortion facility regulations – in 22 years, done. Voter ID, which is gonna allow Governor Romney to win the state of Pennsylvania, done,” Turzai said at Saturday’s Republican State Committee meeting, according to PoliticsPA.com.

People can deny the political agenda until the cows come home but there you have a Republican leader in the Pennsylvania House admitting that voter ID was the ticket to what he thought would be a game changer for his party.

Re: Sen. Landrieu's remarks on race anger Republicans

No, we haven't.

From what I understand, the Executive branch is charged with enforcing the laws of this country...specifically the Constitution. If the Constitution says only citizens of the United States can vote in our elections, it is the duty of the Executive branch to ensure only US citizens are voting. Right? Have I mixed something up?

Greetings, mac. :2wave:

That's what I've always understood, but who knows? I can't imagine what trouble I'd be in if I tried to vote in another country, but this is America where some people have difficulty proving who they are, so we have to make exceptions for them, I guess. :2mad:

Again...simply not true. Valid ID is already something that is required for such things as driving a car, opening a bank account, cashing a check, etc. It's not like people are just suddenly faced with obtaining an ID to vote. Unless they live a nomadic cave like existence, they already have an ID. Voters are not being charged a cent to vote. They are merely expected to show something they already have. The left's reluctance to accept the concept of voter ID laws is patently dishonest.

Yes, it is true.

Yes, in the same way you believe that not requiring positive identification of the voter helped Obama win Pennsylvania in 2012.

WOW!!!! Talk about political paranoia!!!!! I provide verifiable evidence that a prominent Pennsylvania Republican House leader admitted his scheme was for partisan political purposes and all you can do in response is go on the attack and pull some bogus position ascribed to me out of your .......

... let say vivid and lurid imagination. AMAZING!!!!!!

I think you missed a few exclamation points.

But really, no reason to argue with you. That PA Republican believed that voter fraud was rampant in PA and that it favored the Democrats. He was a s wrong as the nitwits of the other side who were screaming that voter laws would be gazillions of people being turned away at the polls because in their lifetime they could never be bothered to pick up government issued photo ID.

But, on the up side, the Voter ID debate is the one time where liberals agree with me that Government is inefficient and too expensive. :lamo

Republicans are calling on Democratic Senator Mary Landrieu to apologize after she suggested Thursday that President Obama's deep unpopularity in the South is partly tied to race.

Anyone in the GOP who doesn't recognize the fact that the GOP has close to zero support from Blacks in the USA Is out of touch with reality

Does anyone have any idea why so few Blacks support the GOP/

"Better days are coming." ~ But not for today's out of touch, running out of time, GOP

That's because the GOP stands for earning one's own way in life rather than living off the government teat. And Obama's minions would rather suck the teat.

nothing personal, but when folks like you hit the level of a real movement that changes the political demographics you will be more than just an anomaly and then and only then will that make a difference. For now, Black ID with the Democratic party has never been stronger so you are bucking a very heavy tide.

I agree that some of those issues are not specific to Blacks. However, others are split on them where Blacks are not so much on those issues.

Well, there was a solid 10-15% that have always been voting GOP...and it's growing a bit. Most of those issues are not specific to the black community, so in reality, they are not black issues. As more and more of us realize the impact that the welfare state has had on our community...and we realize that we've been voting for Democrats for 60 years and our communities still suck....we'll begin looking for a different path.

Actually I understated what you tried to do.

Going overboard mischaracterizing what people say hardly serves your cause.

Figures I have seen indicate in 208 and 12 Dems got over 90% of the vote - in some communities even more than 95%.

You and I agree on one thing: the welfare state has hurt many in the Black community. The question I then ask and am bothered by is how much would the community be hurt by an end to that same welfare state?

Re: Sen. Landrieu's remarks on race anger Republicans

Why are you claiming that black people are too stupid to get a photo ID?

Why are you claiming I claimed things I never claimed? Save your inflammatory BS for someone else.

Look to welfare reform in 1994. It forced many back to work, and for awhile it was a good thing. I think in the short term, it would be hard on some, but I think the potential positive outcomes would be a great benefit not only to the Black community, nut the American community overall.

You must be! How hard is it to get an ID? A few minutes at the DMV and 20 bucks? I guess not a singke one of those youbg people you claim don't have an ID, don't buy gigarettes or beer, along with everything else they can't do without a photo ID.

It's like you haven't read a single word of the discussion.

I've read eberythinh people have posted and it all boils down to one thing: you think black folks are too stupid to carry their ass to the DMV, spend 20 bucks and get a photo ID.
