The Texas I remember had plenty intelligent and cool people. What in the world happened down there?

Perhaps, nothing has changed. Maybe it's just the advent of the convenient video cam. How come we only hear of stupid **** coming out of Texas anymore? Perhaps acts of kindness and intelligence just don't make for good entertainment. I dunno.
Ummm, in case you didn't bother to watch the video, everyone around came to the aid of the victim. There are A-holes in every state. It seems to me that the good people of Texas handled their A-hole quite well in this instance. So if you are trying argue that this shows the whole state of Texas in a bad light, that is not only silly, but contrary to what we can see with our own eyes on the video.

That sounds plausible until you realize that a security person has their own communication device.

Yes, obviously drunk and belligerent. His name is McCleish Christmas Benham, and he's from Shelbyville, Tennessee.

    You're welcome.

Criminalizing an act differently based upon its motive is positively vile and the sure sign of an authoritarian mindset.

If you're saying that unjustly assaulting someone because of one arbitrary, invalid reason is different than unjustly assaulting someone for a different reason, you are saying that of the two equally beaten up folks, one is more of a victim and the other is less important.

Since we have a criminal justice system to protect and promote our human rights, because all men are created equal, the notion of "hate crime" itself is anathema.

Hate crimes don't exist - the idea is redundant.

What I saw was assault, and he was arrested. Another drunk bites the dust. Good.

When diffusing this kind of situation you get between the person who is out of control and their victim. The irrational, out of control person doesn't want to attack you, and without a clear open target he won't attack their intended target either. More often then not they will give up and occasionally they will try and attack you. Either way you have diffused the situation. If the multiple people who were filming had simply done that then this would have been resolved without violence.

No, it isn't. But trying to explain why this is a hate crime to a right winger is like trying to teach a beagle card tricks. It's a waste of time.
