Federal government recognizes same-sex marriages in six more states

Attorney General Eric Holder announced Saturday that the federal government would recognize the marriages of same-sex couples in six additional states - Alaska, Arizona, Idaho, North Carolina, West Virginia, and Wyoming - bringing the total number of states in which same-sex marriages are federally recognized to 32, plus the District of Columbia. The announcement means that gay couples married in those states can now qualify for a variety of federal benefits, including Social Security and veterans' benefits. Holder made a similar announcement last week with respect to seven other states. [Colorado, Indiana, Nevada, Oklahoma, Utah, Virginia, and Wisconsin]

"With each new state where same-sex marriages are legally recognized, our nation moves closer to achieving of full equality for all Americans," the attorney general said in a statement. "We are acting as quickly as possible with agencies throughout the government to ensure that same-sex married couples in these states receive the fullest array of benefits allowable under federal law."The announcement comes after the Supreme Court decided earlier this month to decline to hear any cases involving same-sex marriage, allowing lower court rulings in favor of marriage equality to stand. The decision effectively cleared the way for same-sex marriages in eleven states.[Indiana, Oklahoma, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin, Colorado, Kansas, North Carolina, South Carolina, West Virginia and Wyoming]

Like I said I dont see the little battles people are desperately and shamelessly trying against equal rights lasting more than 2016 at the absolute latest.
The war is all but over with bigotry and anti-rights people being destroyed at practically every turn.

Once again America is righting its wrongs :2usflag:

Privileges aren't rights, where is gay marriage in the constitution, yadda yadda yadda.

Just thought I'd be the first one to hijack this topic for a change.

lol
unfortunately you are right, somebody probably will try that fallacy strawman argument that has been destroyed time and time again.

Ill never understand how one can be so biased that it motivates them to be so dishonest, ignore facts and deny reality on such a large inane scale..

Oh, and pedophilia.

Nope - you guys also forgot "Think of the children!" and "People will be forced to be gay - you'll see!"

If everyone is gay then humans will go extinct.

The government shouldn't be recognizing or endorsing any marriage.

Just to play along tho, Bill Clinton and DOMA is precedent - at least it's enough precedent to contradict your claims in progressiveland....

Awesome, let's keep this list going. Anyone else?

[record scratch]

Did someone say that?

My Aspergers Child: Is there a connection between Aspergers and homosexuality?

Meanwhile, there are astounding overlaps, including that there are 5 to 6 gay boys for every 2 gay girls, just like with autism; there are sensitivities to sights, sounds and smells; there is a difference in serotonin uptake drug reactions; there's physical clumsiness, left handedness, and there's more, more than a blog post can present.

There are people who honestly believe that there are links between autism and homosexuality.

I'm not justifying anything - I'm merely pointing out that progressives (democrats) have done a good job setting precedent over the years for just about every ****ed up thing that is associated with the United States..

Slightly off topic, and I apologize if I'm out of line here, but aren't you gay? Don't get me wrong, I'm not judging. After all, I completely support same sex marriage. I just don't understand why you'd oppose it so strongly if you were gay yourself.

NO I'm not gay...

Someone asserted that I was and I basically said "so what if I was gay."

That doesn't mean I'm gay...

As a libertarian I don't see gay, straight, black or white - I see liberty and our Bill of Rights...

Relax, I'm not judging. Someone else's sexuality is entirely their own business. I'm not condemning you for being gay, I'm just wondering why you're so opposed to same sex marriage.

I'm not opposed to same sex marriage politically - I'm opposed to government recognizing marriage straight or gay.

Also, who I **** is none of your business unless I make it your business so if I were you I would stop spreading rumors on general principal......

My sex life or morals have NOTHING TO DO with the Bill of Rights. Unlike most people my morals/ethics are not my frame of reference.

If you're not opposed to same sex marriage politically, then government recognizing your marriage is the same thing since by definition it is political.

And again, I am not judging you for being attracted to people of the same sex. It's not my business and has literally zero impact on me personally. Relax.

What is it with you and homosexuality dude? now I'm thinking you're gay.

Unfortunately I'm not a ****ing dictator hence I cannot dictate marriage..

Sorry but the simplistic viewpoint of "are you for or against gay marriage" doesn't apply to my ideals.

My answer is - and always will be - that the government has no right to acknowledge marriage legally.

Do you understand that?

Denial is the first stage of guilt you know...

Ok, I'm whatever you want me to be.

What is the difference between a gay libertarian and a straight libertarian?

Say I am gay, say I am straight, how are my politics influenced by any of that nonsense?

Well, it's a discussion on gay marriage (specifically the Federal government recognizing your marriage). If the Federal government now recognizes your marriage, how is that a negative for you?

Where in the constitution is the word "marriage" at all?
