I do not think that a single issue is the cause but instead a multitude of things.
I feel that we are often to easy on our children today. In past generations life was a lot harder for children from a very early age. They often saw death firsthand due to war and/or illness, they worked with their parents once they were old enough to walk, hunger was not uncommon, ect. Now children largely spend their time in safe clean environments without needing to work long hard jobs or starve. Their little minds seems to be occupied by how best to entertain themselves instead of how best to survive. As a result I feel many are mentally unprepared when something doesn't go according to how they wish it. When something in their life gets difficult they do not know how to cope and will lash out with a over reaction to solve the problem.
Funny on this turning away from God thing causing school shootings. I guess we should be more like the middle eastern countries where "God" is revered and there is no violence.
Never let your sense of morals get in the way of doing what's right.
Anyone who talks about gun control here will be swept off their feet.

Relative Morality, outdated 10 Commandments, Abortion, and Evolution in Schools, and Atheism evidently has cut the violent crime rate by more than half.
