Now, we shun religion in schools and try to medicate these problems away.

Its no wonder why we're having these issues.
I went to public schools from 1948 to 1960. Never, in all those 12 years, did the teacher ever preach religion or try to turn us to god, anyone's god.

Yet, we didn't have those issues back then.

Maybe the reason isn't really that schools have "shunned religion."

The most laughable thing about Fenton's post is that we actually had more wars in that golden era when people were more religious. Hell, read the Bible, Koran or Torah anytime you want and you'll find that out of every 10 pages, at least 2-3 are filled with violence and wars.

    Maybe not you personally.

I was speaking in a general sense. A societal sense where we've turned away from God.

And I went to school in the 70s and 80s and I remember prayer groups and a much more open reception to a belief in God .

You take God, or a belief in God away from a a struggling kid and what have you left them with ?

His own arbitrary definitions of right and wrong that are influenced by everything corrupt in this world.

You're also left with one lonely kid.

As a Christian I see a World corrupted by the Devil-Evil. But the Devil corrupts through men and men have corrupted this world outright.

I hate to think of a kid who only has the examples of human mistakes built up over thousands of years to guide him through his toughest times.

Like I said, its a lonely and tragic way to live.

Somehow, preaching the religion of peace doesn't seem to make people any more peaceful, does it?

    Lol !

Yes, I figured someone would reach back into the crusades eventually.

Starting from 1914-1976, how many people died due to war, famine and genocide ?

Include Rwanda and if you want.

You care to venture a guess ?

Damn sad no matter what his reasons were.

By the way, it sucks sending 3 kids off to high school every day and not know if theirs will be the unlucky school that has a student who goes off the rails with a gun that day.

Teaching any religion doesn't make anyone more peaceful. Africa had Christianity shoved down its throat for 100+ years and if you take a look at some of the political movements in the country, they all wave their Christian credentials proudly. Hell, the conquest of America, along with all of its raping and murder, wouldn't have been possible without Europeans waving Christian crosses as an excuse. The claim that we have somehow become more violent than our ancestors is patently false, that we've done so because we no longer are connected to a 'god' is absurd.

Yep, and those wars were predicated on the clear distinctions between right and wrong and Good and Evil.

The left so wants to blur those lines and move everyone into the gray areas of moral equivalency.

    That comes with consequences unfortunately.
