Don't blame the parent's, don't blame society, don't blame video games or guns, blame the perpetrator. Why did this happen? Because insane people are among us; we can do little to stop such an act from ever happening again.

    Edit: Godlessness? Really?

Is it a prevalence of guns? Nonsense. Guns were more prevalent per capita in past eras, and this **** was not common.

Is it video games? I think no, but I don't really know? I mean, I play video games. And I've never shot up a school.

Is it bullying? Is bullying something new? Has bullying gotten worse? Is it because it's all online now?

Is it copy catting? Like, gee wiz, my life sucks, I'm gonna go all columbine on someone? Had this latest shooter even heard of columbine?

What are we doing wrong as parents? How are we erring so badly that are kids are homicidal maniacs?
You left one out. Media attention and recognition. Something that becomes attractive to most of the social outcasts that commits these acts.

If you ask who the gunmen was in Newtown, CT....most will know his name. Ask the name of one of the kids or teachers....most won't know their name.

Also, the drugging of kids. ADHD, ADD, or whatever the disorder dujour is. Main common denominator with these things.

School shootings are not common. But we have always had school shootings in this country. Sometimes it jealousy sometimes if some kid who couldn't handle being bullied or its revenge for something else. Heck the first school documented school shooting was pissed off Indians. The only difference between now and say the 1980s,1880s or before then is that the media is trying to exploit these stories for political reasons. This is why when someone uses a gun to save people the hero gets little to no mention by the media. But if some scumbag shoots up a school the media will turn that piece of **** into a celebrity in order to push some sort of anti-2nd amendment agenda.

List of school shootings in the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

One could ask the same question about a whole lot of issues. Why indeed?

Highly unlikely, for the reason you just gave.

That we don't know. Violent video games are something new, and may not affect everyone the same way.

It's nothing new. It was a problem when I was in school, too.

I think that may be a big factor. Everyone has heard of shootings. Most of us are appalled, some say, "Hey, that's cool! I think I'll do it too!"

I don't know. Is it parenting? Maybe. Is it a lack of discipline? A lack of positive example? These are the legitimate questions. Instead, we'll hear partisan hackery and calls to outlaw guns.

Relatively new in the sense that the consequences of this disconnect have started to manifest themselves in things like School shootings over the last 20 years

I don't know what caused the shooting, but if there's one thing I do know, it's that a lot of people will line up to blame it on their favorite political peeves.

In the past a more universal shared belief in a higher power helped to define the distinctions between good and evil for kids that were frustrated, confus or easily influenced.

Instead of looking inward and finding nothing but more pain a child brought up believing in something larger than himself had a better chance of receiving counsel or could turn to prayer instead of taking out his frustrations on his innocent classmates.

Now, we shun religion in schools and try to medicate these problems away.

Its no wonder why we're having these issues.
