Doctor being tested for Ebola in NYC [W:110]

Re: Doctor rushed to Bellevue Hospital with Ebola symptoms went bowling a day earlier

I disagree. It may have been somewhat careless, but if it were deliberate, he wouldn't have sought help when he became symptomatic.

Sure he would, he would get IVs, the experimental drugs, and all the best of treatment, and he KNOWS that is essential to his own survival!

Agreed, as if he's going to sit home and die.

One day, Comrade. One day.

But first something must be done about those pesky conservatives.

This is The Cloward and Piven plan, only better! :lamo

Re: Doctor rushed to Bellevue Hospital with Ebola symptoms went bowling a day earlier

I dont follow this logic.

If he deliberately wanted to spread the virus, he would have tried to do so when he became symptomatic. The virus does not spread when one is not symptomatic. Instead, when he became symptomatic, he reported his condition and sought help. Therefore, he did not deliberately wish to spread the virus. In sum, I don't believe he tried to deliberately spread the virus.

His being somewhat careless related to his being in public when he started feeling sluggish. There was a small risk that he could have become symptomatic during that time.

If he wanted to spread the disease, but also survive personally, he would have done exactly what he did do!

Re: Doctor rushed to Bellevue Hospital with Ebola symptoms went bowling a day earlier

This is shocking and very distressing information:

Doctor who treated Ebola patients in West Africa tests positive for deadly disease after rushed to Bellevue Hospital - NY Daily News

We will know in a few days.

Set aside for a moment, the issue of whether this man, after testing proves to have EBOLA or not.

If you are a highly trained medical doctor, and just witnessed first hand the deaths of Ebola in Guinea, and you return to the U.S.

Whether you feel well, or not, any responsible person, regardless of whether the government insists upon isolation, would place themselves voluntarily in a mode of low public contact and make of diary of all contact they do have, just in case.

If this person went to a public gathering, such as a bowling alley, given his level of training, exposure, and change of location from Africa to the relatively Ebola free area of the United States, we have to assume that for Political or Personal motivations, he is TRYING to deliberately spread the disease!

This man is, in my estimation, A TERRORIST!

This is a clear and present danger to the lives of hundreds of millions of Americans, and represents a valid case of deliberate Terrorism!

This should be immediately addressed by the White House, and the President of the United States!

I dont know that he even intended to spread the virus, I think more likely he was hoping to avoid quarantine and ended up bringing it here. He DID say he purposely quarantined himself in his apartment, but the cats out of the bad at this point. If he's a physician-he KNEW this.

Re: Doctor rushed to Bellevue Hospital with Ebola symptoms went bowling a day earlier

One can't spread it when one isn't symptomatic.

This was discredited weeks ago, and I can tell you from personal knowledge that even defining "symptomatic" is sometimes difficult. Remember that nurse that the CDC told could fly because her fever wasn't high enough? Yeah she just took tylenol. Welcome to the world of medicine, where things are almost never black and white.

Yeah, yeah, you say that about every thread I post, and do your best to derail every thread as well. Its Personal, it get it!

Its probably also your racism, I get that too.

Sorry, but this is allot bigger than you!

And getting worse every hour, sadly.

I was only responding to a message that alleged a deliberate act (http://www.debatepolitics.com/break...-being-tested-ebola-nyc-5.html#post1063902343). I don't disagree that the doctor may have hoped to avoid quarantine. That's a quite different position from that taken in the message to which I was responding. IMO, there is virtually no chance that the doctor wanted to spread the virus.

Re: Doctor rushed to Bellevue Hospital with Ebola symptoms went bowling a day earlier

The doctor openly admits he began feeling "Sluggish" on Tuesday.

He did NOT self-Isolate, or report his observations to his employers or authorities.

He went out into public, traveled on several trains, buses, and taxi cabs, went to several restaurants, used public restrooms, even when he noted on Wednesday that he had diarrhea.

He then went bowling, and only the next morning contacted authorities.

There are some exceptions e.g., transmission via semen after one has recovered. With regard to the doctor's subway travels and bowling outing, the risk that he spread Ebola is very low.

The problem isnt that the probability is low, its that it even happened.

As I stated earlier, I thought it was somewhat careless for him to have done so once he started feeling sluggish. There was some risk that he could have become symptomatic when in a public place. Right now, the news accounts suggest that he did not become symptomatic until afterward.

And he already dropped the ball. There do exist mechanisms to prevent this type of thing, like closing borders.

I haven't seen any news reports to that effect. For example, CNN reported:

Spencer, who is hospitalized in intensive care, went for a jog, may have gone to a restaurant, traveled the city's vast subway system and went bowling before feeling ill...

The New York Times reported:

Speaking at the news conference, city officials said that while they were still investigating, they did not believe Dr. Spencer was symptomatic while he traveled around the city on Wednesday and had therefore posed no risk to the public.

Among other things, they are not listening to the American CDC on the issue of the Incubation period of Ebola, which the CDC says is a max of 21 days.

The WHO, the World Health Organization states that their maximum confirmed Incubation delay has been 47 days!

I also don't think any EU countries are issuing 100 visas per day to Africans from countries with the Ebola outbreak.

This is why Obama has made it political. 1,000 visas per week are still being issued by the Obama State Dept. to Africans from three West African countries with the Ebola outbreak and most are likely visas over stays. In layman terms as soon as their visas expires they will still be in America, will become illegal aliens aka undocumented Democrats and will just wait around for amnesty.

That's the real reason why the Obama administration refuses to stop incoming passengers from West Africa entering our country.
