Union Demands send Firm and jobs packing from California

Union demands send Japanese firm, jobs packing from California town | Fox News

Just another example of why California is one of the most unfriendly states to business in the country. California continues to prevent companies from creating jobs and having employees paying taxes which is why California is losing businesses and has among the highest unemployment rates in the nation.

Re: Union Demands send Firm and jobs packing from California

"The "Antelope Valley Residents for Responsible Development," a group backed by the International Brotherhood Workers Union Local 11, produced a 588-page appeal claiming that construction of the proposed factory would violate state environmental laws, by, among other things, kicking up spores. What the union really wanted, according to Kinkisharyo officials, was clearance to organize the plant without any interference from the company. When Kinkisharyo officials balked, the project suddenly became a potential environmental hazard." OP's link

"Valley Fever (Coccidioidomycosis) is primarily a disease of the lungs that is common in the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. It is caused by the fungus Coccidioides sp., which grows in soils in areas of low rainfall, high summer temperatures, and moderate winter temperatures. These fungal spores become airborne when the soil is disturbed by winds, construction, farming and other activities.

Valley Fever infections are more likely to occur during certain seasons. In Arizona, the highest prevalence of infections occurs June through July and from October through November. In California, the risk of infection is highest from June through November, without the late summer break.

It is estimated that there are about 150,000 infections in the southwestern U.S. each year. Approximately one-third of these results in a self-limited, possibly lengthy, respiratory illness. However, in a small percentage the illness is more serious and potentially lethal.

In susceptible people and animals, infection occurs when a spore is inhaled. Within the lung, the spore changes into a larger, multicellular structure called a spherule. The spherule grows and bursts, releasing endospores which develop into spherules. Valley Fever symptoms generally occur within three weeks of exposure. Valley Fever is not a "contagious" disease, meaning it is not passed from person to person. Second infections are rare..."

Workers have a right to organize.

Based on the comment I posted, the company has a problem with it.

They just wanted it to go through the nmormal process, and not simply a card check, as the union wanted. Or, the union wanted to stack the deck and the company said.. no thanks.

The standoff began shortly after the June announcement, when Local 11 officials sought a so-called card check agreement, where a company accepts the union if a majority of workers sign authorization cards. Absent such an agreement, the National Labor Relations Board would authorize a secret ballot during an organizing campaign the company would be free to oppose. The company said no thanks.

Expand / Contract Delays caused by a union-backed environmental complaint have cost the company $2 million, and prompted it to look out of state for a site to build its plant. (Kinkisharyo) (KINKISHARYO)

"We offer good salaries and good benefits, and we've never had a labor issue," Donald Boss, Kinkisharyo's general manager of program management, told The Los Angeles Times. "If our employees want to organize, they can. But we aren't going to organize for them."

I think the company has a problem with strong armed labor tactics. It's not a problem now. They're leaving that area, and so are the prospective jobs.

Workers have a right to organize.
And, the company has the right to move where the unions cannot damage them - which damages the state, and the workers.
Everything in your life is a reflection of a choice you have made. If you want a different result, don't blame someone else, or expect others to make a change, you should stop complaining and make a different choice. Remember, the circumstances of your birth don't determine the outcome of your life.

I realize that scab friendly states undercut fair paying and safe jobs.

I believe workers' rights should be strengthened nationally to prevent other states from allowing the race to the bottom that we've been seeing for decades now as middle class jobs disappear while corporate profits skyrocket.
