Elizabeth Warren says she's been treated differently in the Senate but won't say how

Re: Elizabeth Warren says she's been treated differently in the Senate but won't say

I'll say it one more time. I'll even give the group on MSNBC credit for saying it first today - if she and Gillibrand are going to make the claim, then they either need to name names, or be prepared to 1) be called liars, 2) have people make the assumption that the men in question are of their own party which is why they are not naming names, or 2) assume this is a political ploy.

And I'll again point to the question she actually answered, what her response actually was - Yes - and suggest you focus on what she actually said instead of words that some talking heads on MSNBC might have put in her mouth.

Bottom line is to the extent Warren made an actual claim with her "Yes" answer and subsequent statements it was that she was treated differently by her Senate colleagues because she was a woman. That is it. Everything else is projection.

Let me know when she says who is treating her differently in Congress or specifically how she's being treated differently. Until then, I'll assume it's a political ploy. I'm not alone there, either.

By the way, maybe you didn't read the OP or the headline that I posted. It wasn't about her answer "yes". It was what I have said repeatedly. She says she's treated differently, but won't say how.

Re: Elizabeth Warren says she's been treated differently in the Senate but won't say

Elizabeth Warren is one of those special people that I just can't ever feel sorry for. She is here to destroy our country, by any means possible.
And I don't mean smoldering cities, though it might as well be. Government in full control. Constitution gone or completely irrelevant. Your personal freedoms and liberties are only what the government says you can have, and will take away at any moment. You're starting to make some money? Hand it over, you didn't build that.

Yeah, I'd prefer the smoldering cities.

She needs to up her name recognition, she wants to be President some day (to accomplish her goal). She will stop at nothing. She will say anything to further her cause. Who knows if any of this ever really happened to this freshman senator? And in her case, who cares?

Re: Elizabeth Warren says she's been treated differently in the Senate but won't say

What "claim"? That she has been harassed? I don't doubt that she has ESPECIALLY in light of prominence in trying to become head of consumer credit which the male dominated RW was in near total opposition to.
Are you seriously going to hold up the absolute fraud O'Keefe as a poster child of the innocent?

BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Let me thank you for demonstrating the point so clearly, however inadvertent on your part.

Words from a Democrat's mouth=the truth
Words from a Conservative's mouth=a lie

You're obviously not up to speed on your partisanship.;)

Hey Tres, was that not a classic? People are gonna think it was a setup.

Re: Elizabeth Warren says she's been treated differently in the Senate but won't say

Well, the claims that she's making should rock the political world. After all, who but everyone who has spent more than one day working on Capitol Hill would believe such scandalous charges - the Senate still has male chauvinists!! Oh please, tell me it isn't true!!!!:eek:
She could have said what it was without naming a name.
Maybe the poor schmuck held a door open for her.

You could have found that out by reading some of the posts from the feminists that post here. I had one feminist poster here tell me that it is treating women like second class citizens and another tell me it is like being treated like a child. The most consistent message however was that it was behavior done by men that thought they were superior to women. Come on, really?

They couldn't possibly get it more wrong, but whatever.

Oh for God's sake! Sexist because a man holds a door open for a woman? I always believed it was good manners, and I taught my sons accordingly! Sheesh! I would have thought it more sexist if a guy had said "open the door yourself - I'm not your slave," which then automatically makes him a SOB in their eyes, right?

Don't you wonder about the kind of people you have to deal with here sometimes?

Re: Elizabeth Warren says she's been treated differently in the Senate but won't say

It's not controversial that women aren't naming names compared to the fact that women in congress and senate are being sexually harassed by men. I am not a bit surprised by these claims. Running DC is a old boys network, and most of those men have power and money. There needs to be more women in politics, and I am talking about women in both parties. Let's not use stories like this to attack liberal women values. Women should stand together against sexist treatment. It was BS when Palin went through it. It's BS for Warren to experience it to.

Elizabeth Warren says she's been treated differently in the Senate but won't say how

Sen. Elizabeth Warren says she has been treated differently as a woman in Congress.

But unlike Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, who opened up about her experience with sexism on Capitol Hill in a recent book, Warren — the first woman ever elected to the U.S. Senate from Massachusetts — won't elaborate.

In an interview with CNN scheduled to air Wednesday, Warren was asked whether she had experienced treatment similar to what Gillibrand described.

"Yes," Warren said.

Would she care to elaborate?

"Nope," she said. "I've said all I'm going to say."

<snip>

First off, she looks nuts in that picture.

Second, she (and her Democratic counterparts in DC) push female citizens to fight against treatment like this, at the risk of alienating their bosses and co-workers, etc. But Senator Warren doesn't want to name names? Doesn't want to provide specifics? Doesn't want to fight it?

What am I missing here?

Re: Elizabeth Warren says she's been treated differently in the Senate but won't say

My mom was sexually harassed at work for years and said little to nothing. The guy was her boss, and he was sexually harassing all the women under him. Under his direction, another male became really full of himself and out of line. It lead to an overall sexist workplace culture that was acceptable according to all the men at the top.

I am not surprised a woman wouldn't speak out and name names in DC. If she named names, the hacks would line up to attack her for naming names, they would demand proof, and she would risk alienating herself politically and damage her ability to get others to work with her.

When my mom went through the BS she did, we did research online, and read it was important to write dates down and descriptions of the events and statements. It helps your case to build records. So in time, hopefully these women will name names. I hope they are writing it down, and the culture comes out in more and more books in the future.

Suppose she's telling the truth. What would keep her from naming names? Simplest answer is that it was fellow Democrats who were acting badly.

Re: Elizabeth Warren says she's been treated differently in the Senate but won't say

That's all true, but what's the point. It's hard to believe anyone living in the 21st century can't grudgingly accept the obvious, that in a place like the Senate, and all the power structures around it, that women have a tougher row to hoe than men, for reasons that go back hundreds of years of male domination of every position of real power in the U.S. Admitting the obvious is hardly something extraordinary.

on the other hand, I think female politicians are often held to lower standards than male counterparts.

Re: Elizabeth Warren says she's been treated differently in the Senate but won't say

Probably not. If you start attacking those men.. bigger more powerful men in DC, you put yourself at risk as a politician. Those guys have sway and access to the media, and they have big ass, rich supporters and donors who want them to stay in office. The lobbyist would defend them. The right wing media would defend them. The spineless liberal media would debate the topic.

Really... you don't think Fox News would do their job in propping up any of those men in a sexual harassment scandal... ****ing please. Rush Limbaugh would go the hell off calling these women liars and sluts. He would demand to know what they were wearing, because they were probably begging for the guys to compliment and smack their asses. Megan Kelly and Misha Brzezinski would suspiciously criticize all the women making the allegations. The 24 hour news media spin would make it a debate issue, not congratulate these women for their bravery and courage.

That's exactly what they were saying on Morning Joe when they were talking about it. Name names. Put it out there. They encourage women to identify sexism and fight against it, yet here she is making accusations against, well, nobody in particular. It's an odd way to set an example.

She won't name names because the men she refers to are members of her own caucus. If the guilty parties were Lindsay Graham, John McCain and Mitch McConnell, she'd be on the rooftops telling everyone.

Re: Elizabeth Warren says she's been treated differently in the Senate but won't say

Nonsense. Warren naming names would make her the darling of the media (more so than she already is for some unkown reason). What might be true for a WalMart employee is not true in the case of Warren. If there is one woman in America who could champion the cause of women on this issue it is Warren. And if she refuses to do so for her own narrow political gain, then she is a pathetic hypocrite.

What would do if she named names? Would you demand those men loose their position of power? Would you call them perverts? What would you do and how would you react if you knew which members of the old boys club were busy sexually harassing their female counterparts?

Yeah, she should name names, after all..look how well Anita Hill was supported when she did so.

Nancy Pelosi did all right as did Barbara Boxer. Michelle Bachmann never offered excuses. It's no place for the thin-skinned of any sex, race or color.

It's all part of the Democrat's "War On Men"!

Hill was treated very well. It was Clarence Thomas who suffered the indignities.

She answered a direct question. Pretty ingenious political ploy to answer 'Yes' to a direct question!

And I'm not sure why anyone needs to respond to a headline and a flack's take on it, when what she actually said was just a couple dozen words.

Re: Elizabeth Warren says she's been treated differently in the Senate but won't say

What's funny is watching the partisans slam Warren being that these same folks would be in here crying crocodile tears any time Palin picks up the bullhorn and volunteers herself by trotting out the victim card even when not being asked a question.

I disagree. Warren is flat out liar with nothing to back her claim

It's pretty funny no one actually quotes Warren's claims.... What part of "this" do you have a hard time believing happened?

What's also hilarious is right wingers coming to the defense of Senators that in any other context they'd condemn without giving it a second thought as a group of mostly corrupt, spoiled, arrogant a&&holes. It's the funniest thread I've read in some time.

Flat out liar huh? What do you know about this more than the rest of us? Do share.
