Military preps team for Ebola response in US

(CNN) -- The U.S. military is forming a 30-person "quick strike team" equipped to provide direct treatment to Ebola patients inside the United States, a Defense Department official told CNN's Barbara Starr on Sunday.

A Pentagon spokesman later confirmed portions of the official's information.

The team will be under orders to deploy within 72 hours at any time over the next month, the official said.

The Department of Health and Human Services requested the military team, and the Pentagon has given verbal approval, the official said.

The team will include five doctors, 20 nurses and five trainers, Pentagon press secretary Rear Adm. John Kirby said in a statement.

Great idea, and hope it's not an effort to suppress information about separate outbreaks. Now we just need some big pharma, like GSK to send some vaccines to Africa ASAP.

I wonder why they would be doing that, if ebola is no big deal?

They've been downplaying it, partially, for the right reasons of not spreading fear. But the worse thing to do in today's age of accessible info is to lie or exaggerate, because it makes things worse and creates more panic. And not admitting, because of financial reasons, the seriousness of something is pure greedy stupid. Ebola, like the Spanish Flu, replicates so fast the immune system doesn't have time to respond. That's partially why the high viral load and extremely contagious nature of it.

They have not been completely honest about how easily it spreads with the public or themselves.

But if a health care worker or a family member gets very close to someone who has a lot of symptoms, which is when people with Ebola are most contagious, Jones says droplets of body fluid could potentially travel through the air for short distances.

It's not that it's no big deal.

I really want to emphasize that, but I absolutely refute the notion that a larger outbreak can occur in the United States or any Western country for that matter.

One of the most major concerns and this is real, is that Sierra Leone and Liberia could go full on failed state over this if the infection rates reach the projected increase (which I don't believe they will but its' possible), if that happens the subsequent refugee crisis into Cote D'voire, Ghana and Nigeria could be absolutely devestating because while they have been able to stave off the spread of the infection so far, if that happened all bets are off because then you're barring flights and people out of major economies, a shut down of commerce within those countries.

Nigeria is one of the largest oil producing countries in the world and Africas largest economy, the way this thing affects commerce, it simply cannot be allowed to get there.

Sorry, that's not true. What hasn't been spread is the effort to close it down. This is the worst outbreak in history but it still is not going to wipe large proportions of the planet out. The ability to deal with it is clear - the ability to bring resources to play is not. (yet)

Obama and the CDC says one thing and we see other things taking place that makes Obama and the CDC looking like liars.

What's large? So far the worst numbers are a 14% cumulative prevalence rate in Africa, in the U.S. population that would be almost 45 million people nationally.

I won't be saying much more about the subject, because I think the message is clear and the 'powers to be' are finally responding responsibly. They just announced on the News that experimental vaccines from Canada (800 doses) are being produced and ready soon for delivery to Africa health workers. No matter how much we contain it here, it needs to be stopped at the source.

Seems they are not the only one.

Illinois governor orders creation of Ebola task force.....

Illinois' public health chief said Gov. Pat Quinn has ordered the creation of a statewide task force meant to strengthen the state's response to any arrival of the Ebola virus.

The Illinois Department of Public Health made that announcement Friday, along with disclosing the state is among only a few designated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to perform Ebola testing. The department's director, LaMar Hasbrouck, said Illinois has the lab supplies and would be able to begin testing as soon as next week. There's still no suspected case of Ebola in Illinois......snip~

Many a true work spoken in jest. This seems to be a response to the media as much a response to the actual risk.
