Remember Obama last Surgeon General ? Just like all of Obama's appointments.

The position of Surgeon General is unusual in that it is considered prestigious — conferring rank equivalent to a three-star general or admiral — but lacks much in the way of budget, staff or programs of its own. The incumbent’s achievements are the result of moral suasion and the careful selection of issues — and sometimes a willingness to butt heads with the pols. Former Surgeon General C. Everett Koop, who served in the Reagan administration, was unquestionably the best-known incumbent in modern times. He was strongly discouraged by senior officials in the administration from publicly discussing the accelerating AIDS crisis but he ignored the pressure and become a champion of AIDS funding and research, saving countless lives.
The current Surgeon General, Regina M. Benjamin, has provided a stunning record of non-achievement during four years in her position. Most of her attention was focused on a single issue – obesity – but without anything new or specific to suggest: She promised to “[h]elp Americans lead healthier lives through better nutrition, regular physical activity and encouraging communities to support healthy choices.” (Ironically, Dr. Benjamin herself is obese.)
Those grandiose but vague goals remind me of a skit on Monty Python’s Flying Circus TV show in which one character says to viewers: “Well, last week we showed you how to become a gynecologist. And this week on ‘How to do it’ we’re going to show you how to play the flute, how to split an atom, how to construct a box girder bridge, how to irrigate the Sahara Desert and make vast new areas of land cultivatable, but first, here’s Jackie to tell you all how to rid the world of all known diseases.”..."<
